The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Game Won't Launch
Hello, I just purchased Morrowind. I have 211 hours logged on Skyrim which I played on PC (obviously nothing is available yet on Xbox One). Now, I didn't bother looking at the system requirements for Morrowind before purchase for two reasons: 1. It was released in 2002 - we're not talking next gen here, and 2. If I can play Skyrim, SURELY I can play Morrowind with no problems.
I immediately looked at the requirements after I initiated the download, and I see Pentium III, DirectX, AMD, Celeron graphics!! I was absolutely shocked by this, and, sure enough, the game won't even bother launching.
I have an Intel Core i3-4005U CPU, and apparently Morrowind is CPU intensive. I have 6 GB RAM, 64-bit system, Windows 10.

In your reply I want to know this:
1. Why does Morrowind of Bethesda's 2002 studio use graphics which are FAR more intensive than SKYRIM?
2. Is it actually that my laptop's fine and the problem doesn't have anything to do with the graphics?

It was just a total surprise to see the ridiculous video demands from this completely old-style 3D game!

1. The older the game, the less effective it is at taking advantage of recent technologies. That's often how it goes at least.
2. If it won't even launch, I'm thinking it might be something else entirely that's interfering with your game. A few people recently had trouble because of some security program update that required them to add their Morrowind folder as an exception. But it's hard to say if that's your case.
Sorry, but I really don't understand your response to my first question. Are you saying that the game needs to "update" it's management of modern graphics for modern pc's to play?

No, I mean the game engine is so old, the power of a recent PC is mostly wasted. For example, it can't effectively use multi-cores.

You're not going to believe this... Or maybe you will: I looked for steam updates, did the update, can play morrowind perfectly at very high fps. Launched it 4 times to make sure. Thanks for your time, sorry to waste it!

Well, I bought Morrowind and Oblivion from Steam yesterday. I have been playing The Elder Scrolls for years, but now I can't access Steam on any of them! Help! What do I do?
