The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

House Telvanni
Ok, so I made this character with the main purpose of joining house telvanni. First time playing the game and I just got around to going to Sadrith Mora for the first time. None of the people in the council will talk to me abouthat joining the house.

So remembering something, I checked my journal. Turns out (as this is my first playthrough and I disn't know what I was doing) I started the hlauu quest. Literally did one or two quests. I was in vivec for the first time, talking to everyone, and some lady said "hey can you carry this note to this person at the other end of the hall?" And I said sure why not, and now my journal is counting it as the house halauu quest. I didn't realize that I was in the halauu canton at the time and it was literally the most insignificant quest in the game.

So please tell me I didn't ruin my chances with the telvannis because of this. If that halauu quest is really stopping me, there has to be some way to deactivate it or undo it.

You have to explicitly join a house. Merely running a quest for one is not enough. To join you need to ask Nileno Dorvayn in Balmora.

To join the Telvanni, you ask the mouths in the council room, the topic being "Telvanni" IIRC. If you are not getting this topic, you might not meet the requirements. You need Int and Will both at 30. You shouldn't need any particular reputation, but just in case you are already a member of the Mages Guild, you might try some bug musk before you speak with them.

Right click, and then scroll down on your character stats window.... at the bottom, you'll see the guilds you are currently part of... if Hlaalu is there, then you're part of it, if it's not then you're not, and you can join Telvanni.
But yeah, you won't join any guild, unless you answer yes when you are asked "would you like to join us?" just doing a quest for someone in that guild will not make you part of it.

Well i AM already In the Mages guild. Where's a good place to get some bug musk? I remember some bartender lady telling me "even an orc would be a charmer if he was wearing bug musk" but she wasn't selling any.

I'm pretty sure alchemists usually sell one or two
they give you +40 personality for 60 secs so it's useful when you're trying to persuade someone I guess...
