Thoughts on Glass Armor?
- Is Glass Armor more cosmetic than utilitarian?

- Outside of the fact Glass Armor is rare, what would justify buying this very expensive, exotic, lightweight armor?

I quite like glass armor and weapons for purely cosmetic reasons. The concept is quite odd, sure, because there's no realistic way that glass would ever make a better armor than what is already available (see the Solar Freakin' Roadways project) but for a character which is not meant to be wearing bulky utilitarian armor I think it does the job well. It looks spiffy, if a little too flashy.

My perception of exotic armors like glass, ebony, and dwemer is that it's not necessarily meant to be used for its ostensible purpose as armor, more to establish that the person wearing it is of the accomplished or upper class. To wear glass, ebony, or dwemer armor, you have to either go out of your way to find or craft some or be rich enough to afford someone who can. It's a status symbol if nothing else.

Or just steal it.

I think I don't understand your question. With the exception of a few rare items like the Cuirass of Saviour's Hide, glass armor is the best light armor available.

...or are you asking if it's worth the price?

I took Morog Tong armor off the assassins trying to kill me in my sleep. Then I found the Glass. Best light armor I've found yet. Only enchantet the helm with Night Eye to compensate for my Boots of Blinding Speed, so far.

Since you asked, is it worth the price?... and why?

You don't say?
I'm seriously considering that.

It's simply the best light armor in the game : best durability, best protection and the helmet is one of the few you can wear when you're a "beast" race.
Check the stats : http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Base_Armor

I got the cuirass and pants from a quest and I "borrowed" the rest from a shop in the Ghostgate.

Its not glass like the kind windows are made of. I think its some sort of volcanic glass, hence why its mined. Just like how ebony armor isn't made of black wood.

Well, it's the best generic light armor and definitely more utilitarian than cosmetic.

Personally, I prefer to collect my equipment from quests and exploring dungeons, so every pice of armor/weapon becomes a memento of my achievements. (*cough* I'm extremely cheapskate *cough*)

If the Ghostgate falls, because some Buoyant Armiger didn't have the right equipment, we know who to blame :P

I might take a stroll to Ghostgate with a chameleon magic/scroll and do some "window shopping".

Where did you find the Glass Armor?

Care to clarify?

It's a joke, dude.

The Buoyant Armigers are the military order of the Temple and their main function is to keep any blighted creature inside the Ghostfence.

Glass in the games universe is a form of volcanic glass, its more like a crystalized ore, and is usually mixed with others ores such as moonstone to give it added strength and durability. Though glass arrows would be pretty effective against unarmored targets in real life.

In terms of role-playing choices, I think we are supposed to steal Glass Armor. As far as expenses go, things get easy as soon as we can kill daedra, then do a tour and sell all those silly Daedric Clubs and other expensive items that we won't use (of course I have a mod that gives vendors realistic amounts of gold).

I don't know of any references off-hand, but I'm pretty sure that there was such a thing as "glass armor" used in real life situations in the past. The thing is that you have to get the idea of glass like windows and such out of your head. It generally is something like mentioned above, a volcanic type thing, but it looks more like the oblivion style, shaped plates layered over one another in such a way that it allows for mobility while still offering solid protection. It may crack and sustain damage from weapon blows, but you'd be suprised how durable things like this can be... I mean, you ever see the mythbusters and their paper armor? Not too practical, but it still works.

Well it took a lot of work and a lot of failed attempts, but I finally managed to steal most of the Base Glass Armor from Ghostgate [without killing or being detected]. The only required thing missing is the Glass Greaves. I have no idea where to look for that. Maybe I have to complete a quest like Celira did? Back to the Morrowind/wiki. If anyone knows where to find the Glass Greaves I'd be grateful.

I also have the standard Glass Shield, but eventually would like to get my hands on the Glass Tower Shield. I also “borrowed” the Glass Longsword, and Glass Jinkblade. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Glass_Jinkblade

Not bad for a hard day's thieving.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this thread. A special thanks to those who gave more than a duh answer. http://www.funnychill.com/files/funny-pictures/captain-obvious-tattoo.jpg

Feel free to leave more ideas and thoughts.

Thanks.

I got the grieves for my thief from Ghostgate too, from the box that contains the blacksmith's inventory. It changes occasionally, and the contents of the box change as well.
