Help with modding this on Steamdeck
So I have open MW running fine on Steam Deck but I cannot seem to get mods working. I thought you could add mods to the data files folder under open MW and then edit the config file to point to the mods but that isn't working. Any ideas?

I'm on linux as well. I cant find a linux native mod manager RPM, for fedora, or snap/flatpak package for easy installation. You can install windows version of Mod Manager 2 but it requires installing protontricks and 7zip, which I don't care to do. So the next best option is installing openMW and directly dropping mods into folders, which is probably a PITA. But there are large mods I will do this for, like Tamriel Rebuilt. I just haven't done it yet.

also the very first 'mod' should be installing openMW. the entirely new open game engine that actually runs on modern computers. then follow openMW instructions for mod install.

Not new, first released in 2008, 14 years ago.

I am having to run in dual boot at the moment.
On windows I run Morrowind with MGE XE/ MCP and either use Wrye Mash for mods or do it manually.
On Linux, do not use through Steam. I just copied Morrwind game and mod folder to desktop from usb drive and use wine to run. Still used Wrye Bash for mod manager but MGE XE is just not liked by linux. So use Openmw from time to time for game, which runs fine and easy to use. Just cannot use any of my QoL mods.
Openmw picked up my mods quickly and easily. Maybe its where it is installed, as I did put my Morrowind on the desktop to avoid all that hassle I had with it not liking z: location.

OpenMW wasn't playable in 2008. They just got the quests polished up a couple years ago for public consumption. Current version is 0.47.0, ... 1.0 isn't even released yet.
If I was on windows would install Mod Organizer 2, from Nexusmods, you're probably getting the latest mod updates from there anyway. Linux will run openMW, vanilla Morrowind , and many other old games through Proton, better and faster than modern windows. There just isn't an easy installation of mod managers yet. kinda like the anti-cheat software compatibility problem on many windows online games, on linux through proton, but that's mostly fixed now. and same thing will happen with a mod manager soon.
