Game Breaking Resolution/ Mouse Bug [SOLVED]

I've been trying to get morrowind to work on my newer computer, but I'm having issues. For one, every time I try to change the resolution in the launcher options, it immediately resets upon closing said menu. Then, when I launch the game, the mouse (both integrated mousepad and my external mouse) completely stops functioning. The game isn't frozen, as the console can still be opened, and the usual tricks of unplugging/replugging the mouse or pressing shift + enter are not working. Any help?
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling a fresh copy, same issue.

I managed to solve this issue, after a ton of digging. I got this from an oblivion thread, and tried to apply it to Morrowind
add the line Background Mouse=1 to your morrowind.ini file, just above the Background Keyboard=1 line
