Any hints for a battlemage dark elf?
I love mods, but I love them more when they're optional, not essential (like fix patches, but I don't count as mods). So I prefer to play vanilla classics.
That said, I'd like suggestions for battlemage without mods. I like hand-to-hand, but is there a better weapon? What about armour type and 3 main powers? I have destruction and restoration in mind. I'm a good mage in Oblivion and Skyrim, but I'm a little lost in Morrowind.
Thanks, guys!

i could tell you my battlemage build, but im not sure it is making good use of the dunmer racial skills to much, i personally dont really care about racials though.

when playing a battlemage i am using blunt weapons, any armor that is not unarmored (personally i prefer medium armor) with mysticism (absorb health) or destruction. conjuration is also nice.

the benefit for using blunt weapons is that a staff has the highest enchant value of all weapons, making them ideal if you want to enchant gear.

i personally prefer medium armor, it gives some decent armor without being that heavy, as a mage you have plenty of potions and other stuff that you have to carry around. especially light armor

mysticism has a spell called absorb health, which is a nice way to deal dmg, it can also save you a lot of potions, i do think it costs a bit more than destruction in terms of mana, but i could be wrong about that.

conjuration is a nice skill to have for 2 reasons, first its good as a backup in case your weapon breaks, second its nice in case you ever run into a larger groups of enemies.

If you do care about racials than you could always pick long blade, destruction and light armor for a dunmer

Thank you so much for your detailed advice, it's going to help a lot. Usually I don't care much about the race, but in Morrowind I think it's cooler to be a dark elf. But I'll use blunt weapons.

Hi, for a blend of spell'n'steel I just LOVE to pick Enchant as my major skill, Illusion as well. The rest of 3 major skills is up to you ( I prefere mix of all 3 classes, so I take Sneak and Security along with Armorer) Heavy orMedium armor as minor skill with wepon of choice (blunt RULEZ), Block, becose shield is OP, and at last two classes of magic (I recomend restoration/mysticism). Now thanks to Enchant as major skill, it should not be a problem for you to create basic magic object for daily usage, that makes your life in Morrowind so much easier ( my choice is "safety-brown pants" common pice of clothing-brown it has 2 enchant points and I belive you can squeeze 11 (or so) restore health on self and "sky-blue shirt" blue common shirt that you can enchant with 1 point of levitation for 18 seconds ) now, you can fight, heal yourself and get anywhere you want (with aid of skill or spell where needed). On the end I just recomend races, that IMO fits lore/story of game (you are an incarnate from past, when nowdays Dunmer were Chimer): High Elf (for safety, pick Atronach as birthsighn) Orc (originaly elfs, followers of Tiramac) I just love them. Hardy green bastards (serpent birth sighn is not as bad as it seemes if you have 100% magicka resistance-and you will eventually) Breton ( Azura says Incarnate will be an forighner ) Nord ( same reason - Lady Azura said so ) and of course Dunmer ( Incarnate has even more reasons to be pissed, imagine, you die as Chimer, and return as Dunmer)

Sounds like you've already decided on a build, but if you're after some more info regarding Morrowind's Magic System, I'd check out 'TedTheViking's Guide'. It was originally posted from a reddit account that has since been deleted, but someone uploaded the text from the guide here onto the steam forums. It provides a nice summary of Morrowind's magic system without delving into extraneous detail (for which the UESP is generally better).

The guide is for a 'Pure Mage', rather than a 'Battlemage', but a lot of the logic still applies, particularly regarding Custom Spells and Enchanting.

Out of curiousity: what Star Sign did you end up selecting? That will have quite an impact on your general Magicka reserves, and thus what you'll eventually be able to cast. Obviously race does as well, but you've already stated that you've chosen Dunmer (which is fine, you just might need a Magicka boosting sign if you wish to delve into heavy spellcasting use in the late game).
