when do u think we will c a release for skyoblivion? im uber excited for that as well
Hard to say, it's a side project for most of them, we can't know how much free time they have at any given time. The team is making good progress though, but remaking and entire game on that scale is massive work. They even need to record all new lines for every character and NPC, they cannot legally use any of Bethesda's assets so everything in the game is recreated by hand.
Replaying an amazing game that gets updated into today's standards, what's not to be excited about?
and most just people making them just die from deep vein thrombosis
or "other" stuff, gamers are too lazy to actually finish anything they start
including most mods
This project has never gotten a cease and desist from Bethesda, or Zenimax so assuming Microsoft doesn't have a problem they will eventually release. Morrowblivon was released and many members of that also work on Skyblivion and Skywind.
Bethesda knows about the project. they are allowed to do it
Well it is a project primarily for Skyrim fans, let's keep that in mind
I know, I said that, but it's not really up to Bethesda, it's up to Microsoft.
I suppose that's fair, but I think it's more for Morrowind fans than for Skyrim ones.
I'd gotten into it a fair number of hours before encountering what I thought was a glitch.
Guards and Golden Saints were attacking me on sight no matter where I went.
Years later I learned it wasn't a bug, but a lore detail regarding a "sacred" Indoril helmet I had in my inventory...and there was no way to stop the assaults until completing another quest chain. Hindsight (and today's easily available internet) is 20/20...
With the remake/mod I'm confident it will run flawlessly, but I hope they've tweaked these awkward little details from the original.
I don't think it's more for morrowind fans. Much of the things morrowind fans like are being changed or removed.
Spell making is going to be heavily watered down, and some spells will be impossible to customize because of the scripts they need to function (like levitate for example).
No hit percent chance or casting chance whatsoever.
A bunch of weapons and armor from morrowind are not being implemented at all.
No wearing clothes and armor at the same time (so also likely a watered down enchanting system to go with that).
And I haven't read anything about this, so I could be wrong, but morroblivion had the same thing where there was no such thing as cast on use enchantments (which make the most powerful enchantments in morrowind) because the engine doesn't allow it. If you can find anywhere they addresses this and said they can implement it, I apologize, as I'm just assuming here because morroblivion did it and I can't find any information on skywind and cast on use enchantments.
Morroblivion is an abomination that ruined all the good things from morrowind and is the very worst way to experience morrowind. It was tailored to oblivion players where stamina doesn't mean anything and you run in straight lines towards the compass and kill everything in your path to finish the game without requiring a lick of reading or thinking.
So going off what is announced for features with skywind, it is quite apparent it's geared towards Skyrim players who can't bring themselves to play morrowind, rather than morrowind players who just wanted updated graphics and physics.
Will the armor system be similar to the one in Morrowind?
We’re determined to make the Skywind armor system much more modular than Skyrim.
There are major practical barriers facing us – implementing clothes over armor and having separable armor pieces sometimes requires a sacrifice of aesthetics, but the team continues to explore the option of implementing worthwhile modular armor.
We’ll be designing the remaining armors and reworking existing armors in a way that allows swappable pauldrons and greaves where achievable, without sacrificing existing design and modelling work. For compatible armors, the left and right pauldron will be completely independent, and greaves will be able to be worn separate from the cuirass for those armors.
Can I wield a spear, staff, or crossbow? Can I throw weapons?
Yes! Although we’ll probably not implement every weapon from Morrowind, we’ve included crossbows and have made great progress with spears and staves, with custom animations in both first- and third-person. Throwing weapons such as knives and stars are also making excellent progress. We plan to including some impromptu weapons like pitchforks and paddles, too.
Spells seem to be the only issue really and that is due to engine issues, but they are defiantly trying. They can make new spells can enchantments as well that can somwhat relpecate things from Morrowwind.
So it might not have everything but they are giving the best product they can create with the limitations Skyrim's engine has.
I never tried Morrowblivion so I don't know anything about it, but the teams are not the exact same and may have different methods on how they approach their specific goals.
