You did the right thing, kill all the Ash Vampires/ dagoths as each one dead reduces his attributes by 5.
Then chug health potions. No real right or wrong way to kill him.
What a grand and intoxicating innocence, how can you be so naive?"
yep, Dagoth Ur is hard.
i wonder how you'll do against Almalexia or even the man God Vivec.
lvl35 is overleveled if playing on normal difficulty, at high difficulty they hit pretty hard
Even though Mournhold is very difficult compared to the main quest, you do have a game breaking spell you can buy.
Last time I did this like 19 years ago or so, so I didn't remember much about that fight. So it was my universal set of gear. I prepared nothing special for the fight.
And of coz it was maximum difficulty.
I enchanted all my stuff to Restore Health as much as I could. My gear list is not the most enchantable. I use glass armor and some of the exquisite clothes. I don't use robe and skirt for example. And I need to spent some enchantment points to some other useful stuff like Water Breathing and Night Eye.
In total it's about 9 HP per second of Restore Health effect in average.
You always need an item with constant Levitate effect. I have a ring with 8 pt.
And you often have to deal with Damage Attribute effect. It's very impractical to go to temple shrine every time. It's actually very easy to solve this problem. Using exquisite ring or amulet you can make an enchantment as high as 69 pt cast when used of Restore Attribute effect for all 8 attributes in one item. Very cheap effect.
My attacking item is an exquisite amulet with 2 spells:
1) 1-61 Restore Health on Self for 3 seconds.
2) 11-100 Fire (or Frost, Shock is more expensive) Damage on Target for 3 seconds.
With constant 9 Restore Health on average from gear enchantments and 31 (1-61) Restore Health on average from an attacking amulet I have 40 pts Restore Health constantly. It's exactly the same amount you get from Exclusive Restore Health potion.
So you don't need any potions to heal yourself coz you practically have Exclusive Restore Health potion as a constant effect.
Now all you need to do is to leviate a little away from the ground using that levitate ring, so he can not hit you melee. In such case he will use his spell. Use Restore Attributes item to restore your damaged attributes every time he hits you, you can fly so evade most of his spells, and use an attacking amulet to burn his ass.
He died after like 3 hits. Very disappointing.
There are harder opponents than Dagoth Ur. Vivec, Umbra, Bolvin Venim, Lich from small officail plugin Siege at Firemoth. That's all I've encountered for now.
2-3 guards (Ordinators are the best) or Dremoras or Golden Saints could kill my ass much more easier. Except for Levitate effect of coz.
That would be because you have some nice enchantments...

If you're not geared or levelled out the arse, Dagoth Ur is quite a step up in difficulty from his kin. His melee attacks are significantly stronger than just about anything else in the base game; for comparisons you're looking to Umbra or Ascended Sleepers (Vivec hits like a truck even more so than Dagoth Ur, but he takes a while to burn through his spells). If you're not prepared, he will slap you.
That said, if you 'are' prepared, he's a walk in the park, and markedly easier than most of the boss creatures found in the Expansion packs (which is by design, as the idea behind the Expansions is to attempt them 'after' completing the main game).
300HP is around about 'mid-level HP' in the grand scheme of things. Characters typically cap out in levels (and thus HP) around level 70, or 600-700 HP. Of course, all Major/Minor skills need to be trained to 100 to get there, and so a lot of people are content playing the Expansions at level 50-60 and levelling things more naturally (rather than paying for training to get everything to 100).
There are some very tough fights ahead though.
Do not want to spoil your fun, but one thing Mournhold has , quite easy to find :
In Mournhold you can buy a spell Fortify Skill, it is there to help because Amalexia and co can be hard
