There are 3 vitally important things you need to do if you plan to use original game engine:
1) Install MCP (Morrowind Code Patch). It fixes some of the critical bugs, which may corrupt saves making them unplayable and unrestorable. If you are unsure which of the individual fixes to apply - just set 100% fixes in the bug section on and all the other sections off.
2) Install PfP (Patch for Purists). It fixes hundreds of bugs which may be fixed using TES CS.
3) And you need some utulity which can organize your load order of your mods. This one is good for me:

They can be found here: https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Plugins
yeah so I basicly tried to follow the guide and after almost 2 hours set up I get error at launch saying
Morrowind Script Extender requires MCP to be installed. ensure you have it installed and make sure you did not delete the mcpatch folder
so I have MCP installed and I havent deleted the folder
god I hate this type of thing, I would rather have a single mod that simply works as one major update to the game like for example Stalker Complete mod for Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl and not this micro installing bullsh*t
excuse my language but I am simply frustrated that I wasted 2 hours dealing with this crap only to end up with a broken game
I found this thing called Morrowind Rebirth, is this some kind of a overhaul mod that I can simply install on vanilla game and get a better experience without this micro modding bullsh*t?
I looked over the guide very quickly, and things should be working if the guide is followed exactly, down to the very last detail.
You probably did this, but I'm going to ask anyway. Did you actually run MCP properly so that it could patch the game's .exe-file (where you get to choose between different options and then finalize the patching)?
To answer your question: No, there really is no complete mod package that is up to date and working well that you could easily just install as all at once, with no more hassle involved. Morrowind Rebirth is intended to be run alongside other mods, for example MCP and the MPP-patch, but it does not require much to get it up an running. Rebirth is what I would call 'augmented vanilla', in that several aspects of the game is reworked and stuff is added, but still while keeping a very vanilla-like feel. It removes quite a few exploits, so that some aspects of the game is now a bit more 'hardcore' and it will not give you magicka regen like the guide above - all for the better imo, magicka regen in Morrowind breaks the game imo and trivializes it just like in Oblivion and Skyrim with infinite 'ammo'.
Besides, the inconvenient truth about Morrowind modding is that it usually takes a lot more than 2 hours to get it up and running with many mods just the way you like it and without any problematic issues (I must have spent many times more than that getting my current setup in action with 50 or so mods).
I run the patch, choose the things in it and clicked big button saying Apply Chosen patches
what more is there?
I have the folder that says mcpatch and there are folders inside with file "patch" inside
I mistakenly didnt notice it thinking it is the description... mea culpa
it says
Analyzing Morrowind.exe...
Backing up Morrowind.exe to Morrowind.Original.exe
There is no compatible patch for your version of Morrowind.exe. Make sure your Morrowind is patched with the last Bloodmoon patch (v.1.6.0.1820). MCP is not compatible with the Impulse or Gamefly download version due to the DRM wrapper around the game program. If you should have a compatible version, please check you have not installed other patches such as Exe Optimizer, 4GB patch or no-CD patches. Check the readme for more details.
Patch failed to apply.
when I launched the game before doing all this I confirmed that the version was 161820
I have a legal copy that was included in a gaming magazine like I explained on start so I didnt use any crac or modified exe
so I am out of options, I guess I will have to rebuy a game I already own either here or on GOG... great
BTW MCP was the first thing I applied to vanilla game so this step was done correctly
Then it sounds like you did do that part correctly indeed - it is hard to say what went wrong, but a good tip is to constantly check that the game is launching and starting as expected as you are adding or changing things to your setup - then it's much easier to find out exactly what causes the problem. Also, MCP should be the absolute first thing that you add or apply to the vanilla game.
The easiest would be to just get:
1. Morrowind Code Patch
2. Patch for Purists
3. MGE XE
Then you have a nicely working game with many fixes and with some enhanced graphical opportunities.
That explains everything - MCP absolutely requires the latest update available, which is the version available at Steam or GOG. I guess the version on your disc is simply too old for MCP to work.
it would seem illogical...
like I mentioned before, when I first launched the game it showed v. 161820 in the lower left corner (the readme file was misleading claiming it was a older version, most likely they didnt update the file, but the game was updated)
either way I will check out this OpenMw or I will try to hunt for some cheap copy on GOG or Steam and retry this process again...
that Morrowind Rebirth got my curiosity a lot even thou it was not what I initialy hoped it would be. Would it work alongside OpenMW?
I own the base Morrowind game, then I found that I purchased sometime later the Gold Edition (which honestly seem like this GOTYE cause it has all expansions)
and I also purchased the mentioned gaming magazine with full version of Morrowind and alle expansions... I own 3 legal copies of Morrowind and now I will have to purchase the game for the 4th time as digital copy...
hilarious...
There are 3 digital releases of Morrowind currently - steam, gog.com and bethesda.net.
Gog.com release includes all the minor official plugins:
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Plugins
Other two releases don't. But all those minor plugins are free for downloading from the official site using direct links listed here:
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Plugins
But it probably would be not the best way to get these plugins anyway, coz they are very buggy too.
Instead you could consider this:
