The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Please morrowinds's gurus recommend the best mods for the first full playthrough (not visual mods) to me
I have been trying to complete the game from the very beginning (in 2002 or 2003), but at that moment I had a computer that didn't answer even to minimum system requirements - celeron 450 MHz, Geforce 5200, 256 or 125 mb of ram (I don't remember exactly, cus I was only ten or eleven at the time), and obviously the game din't run well. It was playable on the minimal settings, but I was forced to set minimal draw distance and the like.

But even then I encountered real problems that discouraged me to play this game at the full length (besides performance problems and glitches).
1) It has just terrible dialog system - it is not interactive, after a while spent in the game the dialogue list becomes a complete and utter mess, you can easily pass by a important quest (and it's really hard to distinguish usual NPCs from quest givers) and it just feels like a browser with hyperlinks ☻ - I suppose it is under the hood.
2) There is just so few quests for this big world. The world is really big but you can't be constantly engaged in doing quest because you will soon run out of it and you then forced to explore just by yourself without guiding hand of story told through quests.
In essence there is not much to do (at least if you don't make up a activity for yourself)
3) The game feels not interactive. It feels static in comparison with for instance Gothic 1 or 2.
4) The inner part of every building is another location that means that there are constant loadings (it was really significant back then, because of sloppy hardware I was using in my youth) and also that means that it easily to get lost, the inner part of the building often is much bigger than it seems from outside, and you feel a little disconnected.

So for a time I preffered Gothic series especially 1 and 2

SO finnaly it's time to go to my main question -
can you guys advise me some good mods that will make essentially the first walk through (I have never played much in this game, but i know core mechanics and some places to make a judgement) more interesting and engaging?
What i am looking for:
1) More quests! I wanna be more engaged and don't want travel to empty (like a stopgap) villages.
2) Some additional mechanincs - forging, building of your of home, farming etc.
3) If it is possible - change dialogues system and trow the garbage options out of window (and while doing so don't beak new quests that were introduced through the mods)
4) Fix current bugs and make game more stable
5) Change interface a little bit (Maybe some sort of journal for completed quests or notebook, or something that helps you keep your current task and remember what you are supposed to do, maybe so sort of inventory filtering and sorting system)
6) Mods that only adds new features, not delete anything from original game (I want to see it all☺)

What I am not interested in:
1) Visual effects mods (because I have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ laptop now, and i wanna play with a decent framerate)
2) sound effects mod (to the exclusion of mods that don't hit performance)
3) BUGS - I don't like those ones☻ I want fluid plathrough (as much as it possible of course)
4) Mods that change something significant of the original game.

I know that I am asking much but I am also know that morrowind have a really mature and great modding community, so there has to be mods without much glitches and bugs

have you tried changing your laptops graphic settings? Is the game running on the integrated graphics card?
Legutóbb szerkesztette: Teralitha; 2018. júl. 15., 13:01
No I have an some old AMD GPU something radeon 5450m or something, it's not a complete garbage for instance it runs warthunder reasonably well on low settings.

But I not I tried to play on my main PC and I got a stange situation - game lags in Seyda Neen.
If I set View distance on middle of high - I find a quite noticeable jagging (let's say it just not pleasant), but in case I set a minimum draw distance (or go inside house) everything is fine.
I don't use visual mods (may bee only morrowind rebirth)

And also - i got tearing in menu when I scroll options with a scrollbar... For insane in control settings - if you scroll the key layout (key bindings) the font starts gradually to be distorted and after some scrolling it becomes an unintelligible thin line (like a spaghettification in the singularity of a black hole☻), and after more scrolling everything becomes normal again
how much ram do you have. also im talking about your graphic card settings, not in game settings.

can you recommend some compatible with Morrowind Rebirth quest mods (I need mooore quests), maybe some random generated just huge pack of little quests (to make the game's word more alive).
Here are some mods I use. I also posted texture and mesh replacers if you're curious.

Apel's Rain Replacer [www.nexusmods.com]
Replaces rain with more heavy rain look (compatible with MGE XE). image [staticdelivery.nexusmods.com]

Jas Crosshairs for Morrowind [www.nexusmods.com]
Yep, different crosshairs to pick from (I use the tiny dot). image [staticdelivery.nexusmods.com]

Connary's Texture replacers[www.wolflore.net]
Connary’s Texture Gallery Hlaalu [lifeininkandpixels.com]

Look for "Connarys Great houses - Hlaalu" folder. Copy the mesh and texture folders and paste them in your Morrowind, Data Files folder. (back up your files first). Now you have a great looking Balmora (Balmora buildings). image [www.nexusmods.com]

Arrow De-Nocker [mw.modhistory.com]
Once you have nocked an arrow and drawn in back it has always been impossible to put the arrow away without shooting it (without going into the inventory.) This mod will de-nock your equipped arrow when you press "spacebar."

Meteors 1.2 [mw.modhistory.com]
Occasionally there will be Meteor Showers with unusual density from a specific direction.

Move or Take My Place [www.nexusmods.com]
I've found this mod to be very useful for NPCs blocking doors. It's also good for NPC escort missions. Some NPCs are really stupid when you want them to follow you on a narrow ledge! (Example: The Shrine of the Dead ... Urvel Dulni)

Official Add-ons by Bethesda [download.fliggerty.com]
Files have been double checked to make sure all dirty references are gone (courtesy of logorouge for the link). Only use the Adamantium Armor add-on if you're a filthy casual (cough... Skyrim kiddies).

Lower First Person Sneak Mode [www.nexusmods.com] (I see you have this op)
Lowers your crouch.

Map Deluxe v 1.0 [mw.modhistory.com]
This mod adds a new in-game map of Vvardenfell with more detail than ever before. It doesn't show dungeons, ashlander camps or that sort of thing. The map can be bought from the bookseller at Ald'ruhn. Read the install doc first.

Ministry of truth Bump mapped [www.nexusmods.com]

Daedric Ruins Retexture [www.nexusmods.com]

Dunmer Lanterns Replacer [download.fliggerty.com]

Dwemer Mesh Improvement [www.nexusmods.com]

Telvanni Mesh Improvement [www.nexusmods.com]

I've found this little mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/1570
Since it's dialogue/script-based, it should work just fine with Morrowind Rebirth. I've never used it myself, though.

You can also try Julan, Ashlander Companion, a huge companion quest mod. Having another character with you might make things seem a little more alive. Morrowind Rebirth should come with its own .esp for it, but you'll need to download and install the original mod as well: http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Kateri.htm

Morrowind doesn't use more than 3.5GB of RAM since it's 32-bit. OpenMW is the only way for Morrowind to utilize more than 3.5GB of RAM.
Morrowind just runs like garbage. If you want a better framerate, OpenMW is the best way to go about it. The framerate difference is astounding.

In terms of mods OpenMW doesn't support the code patch (because it already implements those fixes and more) and MGE XE. The benefits of using OpenMW outclass those graphical improvements anyway. Aside from MGE XE mods I found everything else to work. There's even a version of Vurt's Groundcover that works with OpenMW (though the mod does not work properly with Rebirth due to landscape changes) though the grass does not sway. Morrowind does not also support the fake bump maps that come with a lot of mods instead opting in for real bump maps. There's a way to convert them though so all it takes is a bit of effort.

I was running Morrowind with Overhaul on an i7 6700k and 1070 graphics card and the game still ran terribly. Using OpenMW greatly improved my subpar framerate to take full advantage of my 144hz monitor even with Overhaul. Without OpenMW I'd drop to sub-20 fps.

That may be but your operating system is already using much of that 4gb so there isnt much left to run games. Games needs lots of ram to run smoothly and 4gb is not enough, sorry but thats a fact.

Your statements are false. I currently have 16gb of ram and my framerate in morrowind is 100-150. Morrowind is not the problem, the potato computer is the problem.

My computer is far from potato. I too have 16gb of ram but that's overkill for Morrowind since it only uses approx. 3.5GB of RAM and it's not like the other 12~gb of RAM will ever be utilized by the game. I have a great processor but Morrowind only uses one core out of eight so that's some excellent optimization right there. I don't get how my statements are false when you haven't even refuted them properly.

All my claims are from using Overhaul in the vanilla engine and OpenMW and while Overhaul does not work properly in OpenMW (mainly Vurt's Groundcover) the framerate was a major improvement. Just having more RAM won't suddenly give you 100-150FPS in Morrowind.

I really see no reason to not use OpenMW unless you absolutely desire MGE mods. Even then, some have been ported over to OpenMW.

This is who I was responding to regarding his game performance on a PC with only 4gb of ram. The second half of my post was directed at you. You were saying that vanilla morrowind runs like crap on modern machines which is absolutely false. That is what I was addressing about your post. You are telling lies in order to push OpenMW. Which isnt all that great.

having played a little bit I can conclude following -
OpenMW (I am using nightly build) - has really great perception of smoothness. Sometimes FPS quite low, but game feels a lot smoother that vanilla morrowind and more over so - MGE XE.
In nightly build they included really cool implementation of distant lands.
It has a working mods load order tool (in the game's launcher), that made my mods work properly (and just broke some others)
And I LOVED preloading feature (the game guesses where are you going to enter - and loads new level in advance e.g. when you are entering the building)
And some mods - required some tweaks in order to get them working (I suppose OpenMW have more strict rules for scripts syntax)
Sometime chrashes on loading - (but can work if you try next time).

MGE XE has better graphics, some cool effects, and it more vanila so mods much more compatible than with OpenMW.

I don't think I'm telling lies when I say Morrowind doesn't run well on modern PC's, especially in certain towns (like Balmora) with graphical enhancements. You can honestly test this yourself. I'm speaking from experience and I'm 100% sure that my shoddy framerate in vanilla was greatly improved by the WIP OpenMW. As mentioned previously I was using Overhaul to test this out which as mentioned previously doesn't work too well with OpenMW due to the current lack of support for certain MGE functions (but the game still worked for the most part with noclip!)

And I'm surprised you think OpenMW isn't that great. For fans to be so dedicated as to rewrite the entire engine for an old game just so more people can experience the game is absolutely amazing. Mac and Linux support (with iOS, Android, Raspberry Pi support planned) and a WIP multiplayer function is really great. I frankly can't wait until OpenMW is capable of surpassing the original engine because that'll be a true accomplishment.

You can watch the FAQ if you want more information, you seem a bit misinformed.
