Can't seem to run at 1080p despite setting it in MGE XE
Hey! it's been a while since i last played Morrowind and i finally got around to reinstalling and modding it.
I have some texture mods, MCP, MGE XE and PfP for a more "vanilla" game.

The thing is i can't seem to get the game to run at 1080p, despite setting it in the options in MGE XE.
The 1920x1080 option appears in the in game menu options but on selecting it, nothing happens and it simply reverts back to 720p.

I know it's such a small thing and has never bothered me before, but it really got my curiosity piqued today why it doesn't want to work for me (I can't remember if it did before as it's been a while).

I have looked online and most people are saying to edit the registry which i am not going to do but wondered if any of you have had this issue too and found another workaround that didn't involve editing the registry.

Thanks for your time!

Have you tried running both as administrator?

Hey thanks for replying, yeah tried that and it still won't stick. Kind of a weird problem, it's not killing the game for me or anything, i just have to know why it isn't behaving now!
I had this issue as well. The fix for me was running the game in compatibility mode for Win XP SP3.
Also, I recommend disabling steam overlay to mitigate issues. 20yr old games + steam overlay can be really funky.

Thanks for your reply, i already had the overlay disabled as you say 20yr old games and the steam overlay don't tend to mix!

I tried the Win XP SP3 compatability but it still stays on 720p
Ah well, we gave it a try! still having a blast regardless!

I know you said you did not want to mess with the registry, but if it really starts getting to you ..... 1)as long as you are not gag handed and follow the tutorial it is quite easy.
2) when messing in the registry I always first make a backup just in case. Very easy once opened regedit go to file export and save somewhere. You can also see there is an import for the registry so you can undo changes.
Anyway here is a link to how to:

Well, i watched the linked video but my morrowind registry entries are already set to 1080x1920 so i couldn't do anything anyway.
Exported a copy of my registry though while i was in there so thanks for the idea!

Really confused as why its not working.
Your monitor can do 1920 x 1080? Set in your pc/gpu settings for that resolution?
When you open MGE XE it shows 1920 x 1080 is set?
RevReese Oct 25, 2021 @ 4:00pm
Me too! yup everything is set up for 1920 x 1080 and the monitor can handle the resolution no problem. It just doesn't seem to like Morrowind at 1080 for some reason.

The annoying thing is i can't remember if i had it on 1080 before as it had been a while since i played.
Will keep looking into it but i can't think of anything else to try.
Thanks for the help though!

Just a last thought that jumped to me.
Sometimes AV software can mess with these settings, make sure it is all whitelisted.
If you use any service that cloud saves, these can mess with the ini and settings.

Good idea but i already whitelisted it and nothing. I have steam cloud enabled for Morrowind. No worries anyway, it is not getting in the way of enjoying the game it is just my curiosity going wild!

Thanks for your help though i appreciate it!
