Great read, and you've picked up on many of the things people love morrowind so much for.
Cherish it, because when you get to oblivion, I'm sure you'll be underwhelmed. Oblivion basically has the worst of morrowind and Skyrim. However it does have Bethesda's best expansion (shivering isles) and the guild quests are decent for a play through.
Especially the world of cyrodil was basically a carbon copy of Lord of the rings. They changed all the lore from morrowind that cyrodil was described as (and later explain the retcon that Talos changed the landscape of cyrodil which retroactively changed it so nobody noticed the change). And they gut all the culture and atmosphere in oblivion.
Oblivion will will get you many hours, but it has nowhere near the longevity of morrowind or Skyrim.
What am I fetching, and why must I die because of it?
"Die, fetcher!"
That particular word has never really been translated. But what we do know about it, based on the context in which it's used, is that it's an insult in the Dunmer language.
Alchemy not so much but bearable.
The main plotline nowhere near as good as Morrowind but the guild quests were actual self-contained and well written stories, not the fetch quests of Morrowind, There was also a thread of humour running through it - almost as if they acknowledged that the acting was bad and the animation was really bad; hence the wealth of memes you easily find around :D
I'd also agree the dungeons were poor. Not the first time, but they were obviously copy & paste and after a while you'd recognise the layout.
I would never argue against Morrowind being the superior game - I love Morrowind. But it's Oblivion I go back to playing when I need a fix and I want to have fun, so I'd say it takes all sorts to make a world and Oblivion may not be the failure you expect ........ eventually.
At the end of the day there's no cliff racers in Oblivion. That has to count for something, doesn't it?
Edited this was really in response to some posters saying OP would be disappointed in Oblivion rather than trying to hijack the post :)
Also I heard about an Argonian who has an affinity for forks. More light hearted than Morrowind.
