The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Quest: The Short Unhappy Life of Danar Uvelas
The journal entry for this quest says that Danar Uvelas might have contracted corprus disease, and that "I have agreed to find her husband and cure him if I can".

The game makes it sound like it's possible to cure him. How can the player do that?

All the guides online just say to kill him and take the ring. But I don't see a reason to kill him, even if he can't be cured. He's just wandering around down there pretty harmlessly. He doesn't even try to harm the player unless the player gets right in his face, and then he takes a swipe. And if the player dodges it, then he starts just walking around, not going after the player.

Corprus can't be cured, especially not as far gone as that, AFAIK. And leaving a corprus diseased creature walking around there would be begging for it to spread, which would be dumb.

By lore, corprus is incurable, especially not when it reaches that that level. There's nothing that can be done to save Danar now, as he's essentially a zombie. At this point, killing him would be far kinder, as it's a mercy kill. Plus, as the above post already says, keeping a corprus creature alive is just asking for a corprus outbreak to start.

OK. It's strange, then, that the quest information suggests the possibility of curing him.

No, it suggests that his wife is desperate and wants you to cure him if possible, and it's not like she knows anything specific about the corprus disease (few in Morrowind knows the specifics on it, aside of specific Temple healers, Lord Vivec and Divayth Fyr). It's one of the things I like most about Morrowind - the NPCs don't appear as all-knowing and never wrong.
