"To change your birthsign in Morrowind press ~ to get the console window up, then type enablestatreviewmenu and hit enter. Use the window that pops up to change your birthsign then click OK".
Atronach is quite OP'ed for the right build.
Of course a good level of alchemy is always handy or visit the temple and fill up your magicka.
Some of them are quite immersive. As a spell they restore same amount they cost, but you can put them as an enchantment on something like tower shield.
Also you can abuse summon ancestors ghost spell. Summon-beat him-absorb his spells.
And you can make custom restore magicka spell by draining your intelligence to 0 for 1 second with a custom spell. No mods needed.
No need for crumby mods that break the whole point of being Attro
Secondly if you play with either MCP or OpenMW that glitch exploit was removed.
Pretty sure that the Ancestor Ghost trick absorption trick still works in MCP and OpenMW. The Drain Intelligence exploit meanwhile was definitely removed by MCP.
The Ghost method is quite tedious however. I find these methods to be less annoying if you're an Atronach user:
1. Dabble in Alchemy, and make Restore Magicka potions (you don't need to be an Atronach user to do this but I guess it's more important for them). 30 Alchemy is enough to make Restore Magicka potions with restocking ingredients. Ajira sells Comberry, Nalcarya sells Frost Salts.
2. Use the Atronach absorption buff for magicka restoration ONLY for Shrines. Most Shrines have had their shrine buff Magicka cost artificially reduced to 1, so for the majority of Shrines this won't work. But there are notable exceptions, and they are: St Rilm (Rilm's Grace), St Seryn (Seryn's Shield), St Veloth/Tribunal (Almsivi Restoration), and Imperial Cult Altars (Restore Attributes). Easiest one to access is probably the Imperial Altar in Ald'ruhn Mages Guild.
Use the Shrines when in town, use potions when out in the field. Definitely less tedious and contrived than using a Ghost.
(I maaaaay be working on a Morrowind Magic System guide for Steam and recently wrote a Chapter about all of this lol).
I actually use Atronach birthsign on all mage builds, even BattleMages, goes excellent with an Orc.
My read on the sign is that if anything it's 'more' powerful on a half-caster than it is on a full caster. If you take Atronach on a melee character that uses support magic (like a Battlemage), then often you can complete a whole adventuring cycle without even resorting to a Ghost or a potion, and still get the benefit of effecting of "blocking 50% of incoming spells".
If you, say, clear a dungeon with primarily melee, and only use spells for things such as Healing and the obligatory teleport back to base, you often won't even go through your whole Magicka bar. Then once you're back in town, simply visit a Shrine and poof, Magicka back to full.
A Pure Mage meanwhile is almost totally reliant on spellcasting, and so they are more likely to require potions (or resting, int he case of non-Atronach users) whilst out in the field.
summons magicka tap is what i choose to call it. Is good for when you just need a top up non fight. It is still good in a fight because it means more chance to spell absorb either way and multiple summons are going to AOE your opponent down pretty fast so its benefits all around.
Just switch to Mace of Molag Bal mid fight and wack your opponent. Unless its some boss anyway most will have spells that can reck most enemies pretty quickly.
But with the atronach you have double magicka and you absorb spells
But I agree it is not the best sign for a mage. It is an excellent choice for a spellsword or a battle mage who don't rely only on magic.
For me the problem is more the class than the birthsign. Mage is one of the worst classes in the game, good only for altmers who are too dumb to be anything else.
