The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

This game has the best exploration ever.
Which is pretty damn sad. If I knew back when I was 15, I'd be playing the best game as far as open world exploration and meaningful leveling, then I'd be pretty disappointed for the future.. I must have spent 500+ hours just playing around with different builds and doing every quest. I remember maxing out all the stats that get buffed when you become a vampire, then becoming a vampire. It was so immersive. You moved like a vampire. You could jump extremely far and run very fast. The world had so much life. You'd always feel the sense of discovering something new. Some amazing secret. Some beautifully crafted town.

Oblivion was a pretty good game, but it felt half-baked. Leveling was not as rewarding. The world wasn't as amazing. The sense of exploration was not as good. Becoming a vampire was worthless. The buff was not close to being good enough for the side effects.. The world is scattered in a lot of the same stuff.

It got worse with Skyrim. The only thing that improved across the games was the combat, aside from magic.. Leveling got worse with each new game. Honestly, just remake Morrowind, if you devs are too lazy to make an amazing world.. Let the new generation experience this masterpiece to its fullest. I can't think of a more rewarding RPG experience. Nothing comes close to the sense of wonder I experienced playing Morrowind. The world was alive and immersive af. With great lore and secrets..

The point is the new generation doesn't care nor would be able to handle a game like Morrowind today. The reason the games have changes is people have changed. Sadly, it's the way it is.

Personally what i'd like to see instead is Bethesda openly supporting the Skyblivion & Skywind teams and officially release them on Steam etc like Enderal.

Yeah, I remember seeing some videos on Skywind like three years ago. Good to know it is still being worked on. I wish the same level of love went into RPGs. You'd think it would be a stepping stone, but the value declined massively. Imagine if Morrowind never existed. People would be saying, 'I sure wish there was a truly immersive open world that felt like it was copy and pasted from an alternative universe. Something that felt truly original that didn't remind you it was a game every time you saw something that reminded you of the last area you are in.'

Maybe one day someone will build another massive world with such immersion and interesting characters. Damn, they must have spent so long on Morrowind..

Combat didnt get better with skyrim. It got stupid.

Ehh skywind is just a heavily watered down version of oblivion pretending to be morrowind. not worth the time to even really mention. Morroblivion was something in another league, but even then it's still just watered down morrowind. Open Morrowind is the best bet atm.

really just need some indie dev to come in and show bethesda how to make rpg or for Bethesda to be back where it was when they needed the win and chose to put effort down to make morrowind. success has made them dull and soft.

True that :/

I have only good memories of Morrowinds leveling system as well. Oblivions system was worse but still agreeable. Skyrims watered down system was rubbish.

After exploring the recent Skyblivion material it seems they will be using Skyrims rubbish leveling system which makes it a graphical-only upgrade but without including Shivering Isles.

The Skywind team however, seem to want to add the old leveling system of Morrowind back in. I have high hopes for this entry. It could very well become the best TES game for a very long time.

That is good. Morrowind had the best leveling system. If they do not add it, then it will take away from the experience big time. Also, they need to ad Daggerfall to Steam. I never got to play it yet. It seems like it might be a really fun game to mess around with.

I need their launcher for that? Damn, maybe this will be my next game after Remnant. Thank you! I actually remember finding this at one point. I'd like it on steam, though, but I will take what I can get :)

You don't need any launchers.

DaggerfallSetup just comes with pre-configured dosbox and fan made patches you'd want to install anyway.

I'd rather not have Bethesda's(or any other corporate entity)'s grubby mits on mod projects made by the fans, imagine if that happened; you would be required to pay 30 dollars(if not more) to play those mods that were initially free.
