The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Guild or House with Best Storyline?
I just finished the thieves guild and was dissapointed in the storyline. Are the other guilds or houses any better? I am doing mages guild now, it's a little better with the dwemer sites. I am planning to do Hlaalu as well. What are your favorites regarding best storyline?

None of them are that good if you look at them separately, and only shine in context of providing a bigger picture of Morrowind, it's politics, motives of people, history, etc.

Imho.

Agreed. For example, on it's own, the Thieve's Guild really isn't all that good. But, if you join it while doing the Fighter's Guild (only possible within a specific part of one Fighter's Guild quest), you get the sense of how the two story-lines are connected. But I do think the Hlaalu story-line is pretty interesting, as the faction is essentially at war with itself. That, and its player-built stronghold is the easiest one to find. The Imperial Legion quests also have a couple of cool moments.

The Telvanni story arc is about them consolidating their powerbase in Vvardenfell, at least once you're not running errands for centuries old wizards. Some of those errands do have a bit more background lore to them, others are more "I want that item, go risk your life to get it so I don't have to".

However, for all of their rule of "Anything goes, assassination and murder of other Telvanni is A-OK!", there's no backstabbing among the Masters and Arch-magister. They're generally very straightforward in their dealings including towards the Nerevarine.

Are the Great House quests worth it if you don't care for a house or the rewards? Or should I just skip to the main quest?

Honestly, it's really up to you. There's a part of the main quest that can be much easier if you go through one of the Great House story-lines first. It requires you to convince each Councillor of all three Great Houses to give you a specific title, and this is easier if you go through one of those story-lines first.

Gameplay-wise, I would do the main quest up until you've been to a Telvanni base called Tel Fyr, which you visit as part as the story-line. After you've been there, doing the House Redoran quest-line becomes slightly easier, for story reasons. I'll say nothing more, you'll find out.

Ultimately, it's largely up to a role-play perspective, imo. If you you're playing a sneaky character and you want there to be a moral choice to make? Go with House Hlaalu. Noble-hearted warrior who's willing to get their hands dirty for the greater good? That's House Redoran. Ambitious mage with a taste for intrigue and byzantine politics? Then it's House Telvanni for you.

You were right with the Ambitious mage bit, everything else is not very Telvanni-like.

Unless you invent something yourself or use a mod, the most intrigue Telvanni get down to is "I want <item>, get it for me" and their politics are about the same caliber. Comparing the Redoran and Telvanni storylines will have you think that Redoran is a bunch of backstabbing a-holes living in constant fear of their bully of a leader. On the other side of Vvardenfell, Telvanni looks a bunch of nice guys who really just want to get on with their research (and possibly hoard magical items in the process).

Not quite accurate. Most of the Redoran councillors know that the leader of the Redorans is an arrogant jerk who's living in the past, and they want him gone. As for the Telvanni, two of their councilors HATE each other, enough for one of them to openly attack the other. Also, keep in mind that most of them are very xenophobic, and a good portion of them have slaves. Not so nice now, are they?

Yet the Redoran still follow Bolvyn because they're too afraid to challenge him themselves and while they may want him gone they do nothing about it until some random guy comes around to set things in motion. And they still have slaves and are fairly xenophobic (as is the standard for Vvardenfell dunmer), they just keep quiet about it in an attempt at appeasing the Empire.

The Telvanni are honest and direct in their dealings. If they want you gone, they will not hide their intent. They see no reason to hide the fact that they keep slaves and don't like people who aren't Telvanni.

I agree with the first comment aswell. The one i enjoyed the most personally was Tribunal Temple. Exploration/pilgrimages & artifact hunting was alot of fun for me.

Telvanni, tribunal temple and imperial legion are my favourite. Thing is they don't make much sense for one character to do all 3, but rather 3 separate characters.

Hlaalu is also pretty fun, mages guild is cool if you manage to do the optional side quest for trebonius to discover how the dwemer disappeared (you need to collect a bunch of books you aquire through mages guild quests, and talk to the right npcs to finish it)
