the launcher maybe ♥♥♥♥, but so is your PC (or you yourself) if it/you cant use it
Considering you're not after a large mod install-list for the time being, you might very well be able to survive the pain that is a manual install, and it wouldn't even be much of a problem because when you need a clean Vanilla Instal, Morrowind probably won't be that much of a pain to reinstal.
As for your current project, I understand the objective of playing as close to unmodded as possible, but I will still recommend that you grab the Unofficial Patche(s?) and basic quality of life mods.
There is after all a difference to be argued between "Not Broken-Beth-Release-State" and "Not Vanilla" ; Although maybe you'll want to experience the game as-is with all its technical peculiarities as a matter of historical curiosity!
