The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

What's the story of Molag Mar?
I've always been slightly intrigued by the city of Molag mar. It somehow has a last frontier, or last homely house vibe for me. In part because it is in a rather empty region of lava and general death.
The UESP has nothing to say of it's role in history, founding, ...
Any info on that?

Well, we know that it's an outpost of the Tribunal Temple. That's obvious enough from the fact that it follows the same architectural design of Vivec (the city), and the dominant feature is a temple. However, considering the fact that there's a garrison of Buoyant Armigers present, along with a small House Redoran contingent, it also has a more militaristic aspect than most Temple outposts. My best guess for that is because Mount Kand and Mount Assurnibibi, two important pilgrimage sites, are nearby, so those soldiers are most likely there to keep the pilgrims safe.

But beyond that, nothing. My guess is that nothing of much importance happened there, or stuff that did happen there never made it into the history books. We just don't know.

Think it's a Temple military outpost that only recently opened to civilians, from what I recall.
Molag Mar is a stepping stone. From the Mudcrab Merchant, I cast Almsivi Intervention to Molag Mar, then Divine to Sadrith Mora and then Mage's Guild to wherever.

As far as lore, no idea. Didn't spend too much time there until a few months ago when I decided to do the Temple quests for the first time. I heard something crazy happens if you become the patriarch of the temple before the main quest.

I do like the geography around Molag Mar, though. It's got that secluded inlet of water leading up to it and mountains smothering it on the opposite side. Is there anything else of note here?

Pretty sure there's the Redas Ancestral Tomb a bit to the south. Otherwise, not much.

Oh, almost forgot to mention Nchardumz and Nchurdamz.

Oh yes, that was an oddity the first time I saw those on the map. Don't remember what's in them, though.
