The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

best one handed long blade
Hello, at the beginning I acquired the sword of white woe because a friend told me that is a good sword easy to obtain early in the game, but as the game continues and I'm advancing throughout the main quest I would like to know where I can find a decent one handed long blade to help me in the rest of the MQ and the DLC. Thank you

There's one enchanted long sword I can think of that you get as a reward in the course of one of the DLC main questlines, but I'm fairly sure there aren't many notable pre-enchanted, one-handed longswords. Best to just stick your own enchantments onto a good base item. ^_^

Sword of White Woe is an enchanted ebony sword. The next tier up for standard weapons is Daedric; Daedric weapons (including long swords and katanas) start dropping randomly from weapon-wielding Daedra starting at level 16 or so.

Fixed Daedric longsword/katanas can be found on a couple of guards at Dren's Plantation and on a hostile NPC located under St Olms Canton.

Do Boethiah's quest.

Doing Boethia's quest gives you Goldbrand, a Daedric artifact that happens to be a one-handed katana with a fire damage enchantment. It deals really good base damage for early to mid-game, and still remains relatively useful end-game. However, doing the quest requires the expenditure of about 2,000 gold and waiting for 40-50 in-game days. It's also hard to find the statue where the quest begins, as it's underwater, and in a relatively obscure location.

A better bet might be to take a quick side-trip to Fort Frostmouth on Solstheim, and do Bloodmoon's first two quests. That DLC's second main quest gives you a plethora of Nordic Silver Longswords, all of them with the Paralyze enchantment. These things do good damage, and the paralysation alone will make it tough for your enemies to fight back.

2,000 gold is nothing, it isn't difficult at all to find the statue ( http://mwmap.uesp.net/?centeron=Hla+Oad ), and you only have to wait 21 days.

Goldbrand can be upgraded to the Eltonbrand. It's my favorite weapon.

Or Trueflame. I have that also.

If I remember correctly, Trueflame is stronger but I just like the appearance of Hopesfire haha

I wouldn't know about deadric artefacts since I don't ussualy dance with the devil in my Elder Scrolls playthroughs; But I mostly look out for enchantment potential late game, rather than raw damage.

That said, I never bothered with anything like character optimisation or getting the absolute best.

I am late, BUT going off of unique one handed long blades.

Hopesfire: Tribunal Main Quest
Chop: 30-70
Slash: 50-55
Thrust: 10-30
Ratio: 94.5 (135)
Cast When Strikes
Shock Damage Shock Damage 30pts in 1ft on Touch

Trueflame: Tribunal Main Quest (I assume the non enchanted and enchanted version?)
Chop: 15-60 / 20-75
Slash: 40-50 / 45-60
Thrust: 3-30 / 4-40
Ratio: 81 / 75 (105)
Cast When Strikes
Fire Damage Fire Damage 30pts in 1ft on Touch

Eltonbrand: Stronger Version of Goldbrand, Requires Vampirism and a specific quest and gold amount on turn-in, google it.
Chop: 10−60
Slash: 5−55
Thrust: 5−25
Ratio: 90 (120 w/ spell)
Cast When Strikes
Fire Damage 10−30 pts on Touch
Fortify Attack 30 pts for 30 secs on Self
Restore Fatigue 10 pts on Self

Goldbrand: Boethiah's Quest
Chop: 10−50
Slash: 10−45
Thrust: 10−25
Ratio: 75 (105 w/ spell)
Cast When Strikes
Fire Damage Fire Damage 10−30 pts on Touch

SO
Goldbrand is pretty damn good early on, as if you know what you are doing, making gold is easy and the price is not much. If you can, upgrade it to Eltonbrand. I used the thing on max difficulty and had no issues, and if Vampirism is a nono for you, cure it after which is what I did (picked up Spellbreaker while I was at it)

As for using Eltonbrand, Trueflame, or Hopesfire?
I guess just preference... but being the Nerevarine loving nerd I am, once I get Trueflame, that's what I am swapping to.

As for making a custom weapon, I never done that... *yet*

In addition to all the blades already mentioned:

In terms of Enchant Value, the Ebony Scimitar is far and away the best long blade, holding 80 potential charge. This is enough to hold a 'Weakness 100% to magicka for 1 sec + Weakness 100% to Fire for 1 sec + Fire Damage 100pts for 1 sec' Enchantment on it, all with a 19ft area. i.e. 300 damage fireballs around the target per strike. Pretty silly.

However there are a couple of caveats:

- To find one requires murdering a High Ordinator in Mournhold (no other way of obtaining one). Taunt/Frenzy Humanoid can be helpful here if you'd rather not get into trouble.
- To consistently use an enchantment with such a high amount of charge either requires constant recharging via Soul Gems, or an Enchant skill of 110 or above (which reduces the cost of all On Strike/Cast when Used enchantments to 1). 'Permanent 110 Enchant' is possible via training Enchant to 100 (you'll need Calm Humanoid however as the trainer is hostile), plus a Constant Effect 'Fortify Skill: Enchant' item to make up the skill difference.

When I used to play on my old Windows 98 desktop I always bought spells and then paid to have them cast on non-magic weapons I had found. Way more powerful than anything standard in the game.
