Mages in Ald'ruhn

When I travel to Ald'ruhn using a mage to the guild, all the mages have disappeared? I know that maybe it has something to do with another quest but is there a way around this without going into previous saves?

If you're worried about about a guild membership conflict happening because of this, don't worry. This is a one-time thing, and AFAIK, there's no lasting effects.

Oh, thats great then. So I can carry on with my playthrough like normal but would the NPC's respawn or what?

There's a specific quest that you need to finish first before that happens. It's a quest for the Ald-Ruhn Thieves Guild. Since the Mages Guild in Al-Ruhn is currently vacant, you have that quest open, but haven't finished it yet. Do that, and things will return to normal.
