The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Does anyone else not like how consequence-free Charm spells are in this game and Oblivion?
I mean, think about it.

Someone walks up to you, casts a spell that affects your mind, gets what they want out of you (an item you've been jealously guarding, a discount, or getting you to agree to something), walks away, and then the spell wears off and you realize that you hate their guts and they just made you do everything.

It should've worked like the Intimidate persuasion option - gives you a bonus, but then decreases the NPC's disposition by half the spell magnitude.

It would've also given "Admire" more purpose.

Somehwat unrelated, but a fun fact in that bribing uses mercantile, not speechcraft, as its basis for success, even though it provides experience for Speechcraft. So Mercantile is actually more powerful than Speechcraft as a skill, if you don't mind throwing money at NPCs, but relying on it will give you potent Speechcraft anyways

Using charm spells on citizens really should've been a crime as it's akin to mind control.

I've personally never been bothered by it, it's easier on both games just to briefly Fortify Personality if you want to talk to someone...

Personally, I'm more horrified with Frenzy.

Good point - that should count as assault.

If you wanted to go realistic, you'd probably have to count *every* spell cast on a friendly NPC as assault, unless they had really high disposition to begin with. I don't know how you'd make the casting have consequence, while still allowing you to use the spell.
