Morrowind Crashes in "Loading Area" Screens

I had recently reinstalled Morrowind and the Overhaul 3.0 package successfully until a few hours ago. I had tweaked my settings to perfection and taken a break only to come back to this mess. When attempting to load my character, the game would crash after the Initializing setup and before the Loading Area setup. Couldn't find any useful info online so I decided to uninstall/reinstall MWO 3.0. After the uninstallation I booted up MW Vvanilla just to be sure it was ok. It is not ok... I ran into the same crash when leaving the boat in a new game. After a few attempts to mess with Admin Startup and Compatibility while rebooting a new game I noticed that Jiub and the guard in the beginning have no voice animations or sound.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled Vvanilla several times now..

I have verified cache integrity and every time there is 1 item that needs replaced, after replacing I get a successful verify only to have the same issue when launching the game.

It's the STEAM version of the game.

The mp3 sound files work on my PC

The Warnings.txt file displays two texture errors that after some research I've determined are not contributing issues

Try installing to a new directory, or remove morrowind from the registries. Something from your bad install is likely staying behind when uninstalling (and if you do it to the same directory some mods still have files left behind sometimes that will ♥♥♥♥ with the game).

That's my advice anyway, install morrowind to a different folder than you were, and try running the game vanilla. Mgso sucks anyway imo and adds too many crappy mods to its package.

Reinstalling to a new directory worked. Then I uninstalled Steam entirely and deleted left over files. This worked entirely, allowing me to reinstall to the same drive and directory.

I am running into this issue as well! Years ago I modded this game to perfection and it worked with zero problems. I was playing it again last night with no issues, but now all of a sudden today I can't load into any open areas on any of my saves, nor can I make a new game either as it crashes when I leave the boat. It's the weirdest thing!

I've been using MGE v. 3.8.2 that came with Brorrowind all those years ago. There are so many mods I wonder if it's even worth reinstalling everything.

Was there some kind of Windows 7 update or something? I'm using the non-steam version.

I'm unaware of the specifics for the issue at hand, but after attempting another MGSO install I ran into the same problem shortly after configuration. The only thing that seems to allow me a fresh install of Vvanilla is to change the name of the directory. Ex: D:/SteamLibrary->D:/Steam->D:/Steam001. It's frustrating due to my immediate awe after succesfully running MGSO for a few hours and seeing the difference. It looks much better than Morroblivion, IMO, and we get to keep the old engine/skills.

Also, my Dominos order is pushing 50 minutes... Where are they?

I may attempt the STEP mods to get back the gorgeous looking MW.

Right, so I just modded Morrowind with the STEP instructions and had another good build going. While trying to configure my settings and get a solid FPS the same freakin thing happened not 10 minutes ago. I think it may have something to do with the MGEXE.gui.exe. This program, although really cool, may be biting me in the buttocks.

Update: Disabled Run MGE XE on the "in-game" tab of the mgexegui.exe and it worked perfectly. Re-enabled after a restarting a few times to check and I'm back in business baby. Not exactly sure what I did here but oh well.
