Best patch for Morrowind?
Any suggestions regarding the mods I could possibly install?

My question is do i need the Optimisation patch or the Patch for Purists? I know the MCP fixes a ton of bugs already.

MGSO comes with a version of the patch project. Patch for Purists and Morrowind Patch Project both do a lot of the same things. It's a question of one or the other. You would have to completely uninstall MPP if you wanted to install Patch for Purists. And even then some of the fixes for Patch for Purists are graphical fixes. Patch for Purists needs to be installed before graphics mods. This is the same for the Optimisation Patch.

tl;dr No. You don't need PfP and Optimisation Patch if you are using MGSO.

Thanks for the great reply! that is pretty much what i guessed, i was just looking for clarification.
The version of the MPP that comes with MGSO, does that not conflict with the MCP? I am guessing the MPP has been updated since MGSO released so i will look into updating that if i can do so while using MCP.

I think i will stick with what i have for now. Just maybe update MPP.

Thanks again have a great day! :)

I just checked the install instructions for MGSO and it says to uncheck the MPP when installing alongside TR and Rebirth (i guess because MCP is installed by MGSO and i have updated that to the latest version).

Can i use MCP and MPP at the same time? i would think not as the install instructions says to disable MPP 1.6.5 (which is now out of date anyway) but having it confirmed would be great.

Thanks again.

Yes. They fix different bugs. MCP focusses on engine bugs as well as enhancements etc. MPP focusses on in game bugs such as broken quests, dialogue, etc.

I completely forgot that Rebirth comes with its own set of patches. Morrowind Rebirth uses its own patch project, and so hence why it tells you to uncheck MPP. If you're using Morrowind Rebirth then you do not need another patch project mod (With the exception of MCP). MCP works fine with pretty much everything.

Awesome thank you for clearing that up for me! I will definitely be sticking with my current load order now!

If you're only looking for fixes and a few engine extensions then I would recommend these five mods (and in this order):

- Patch for Purists (Fixes every bug in the game) https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45096

- Optimization Patch (Fixes and increases performance by a lot)
https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45384

- Morrowind Code Patch (Fully modular engine fixer. A must have.)
https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/19510

- Morrowind Graphics Extender (Change resolution, add distant land, shaders etc.)
https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/26348 (MGE XE beta in files)

- Morrowind Script Extender 2.1 (Optimises MGE + Allows for better mods.)
https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45468

And if you want grass then get Vurt's Groundcover. Although that can be tricky to install.
Note that if you're going to use MGSO, then don't get any of these. I would recommend against getting it though simply because it is a buggy outdated mess, imo at least.
I downloaded these but they didn't apply to the game at all so I think I missed something here. What should I do after I download each one?

Each mod page should have installation instructions that you should read carefully. I would tell you how to myself, but I think they explain these instructions much better.

The only file I linked without installation instructions is Morrowind Graphics Extender. This video by the Morrowind Modding Showcases channel on youtube shows you a bit about how to install MGE.

https://youtu.be/UKuMT5RT2IE?t=16m44s

That video also provides more information on installing mods. It is three years old however, and so some parts may be outdated.

Well I'll see how it goes and hope for the best. I appreciate the help!

Well I seem to have everything in order but now the framerate won't go over 15 FPS. Any ideas?

That's strange. What did you set your draw distance cells to in MGE? MGE is the ultimate FPS killer if you go overboard with its settings. I recommend between 5-10 for draw distance.

I left it on five. Even the menu has a low frame rate for some reason. This doesn't make sense because my computer should be more than capable of running this.

In addition to the list that Crown provided above, consider taking a look at the STEP Wiki. It is very thorough, but I think it is also conservative in what it does. It can be a little hard to follow, but I used almost everything in the list and my game looks fantastic now. There are a few other modding guides for Morrowind that also make recommendations. After a lot of contemplation, I went with the STEP Wiki and then looked through the others to see if there was anything else I wanted. Here is the direct link (I hope):

http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Morrowind

The guide is now called the Morrowind Graphics Guide and has moved to the Nexus forum: https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Morrowind_graphics_guide

Did you install the mods in the order given in the guide?
