1st) when you choose the major/minor skills at start they are increased more at your starting level there is no other bonus.
2nd) you only level up based on when you gain a major/minor skill increase. misc skills will not give you a 1/10 pip for your next level up.
In actuality you can goto a trainer and level it 10 times if you wanna level so if you wanna continue playing armored you can.
Also note mobs in morrowind do not increase/decrease in difficulty as you level up that is what the difficulty slider is for, so if you are doing fine in your current gameplay you will have no future disadvantages. If you feel the game is too easy/hard adjust the difficulty slider to suit your needs.
