This is actually the worst TES game...
For anyone wondering if you should buy this game or not because of the positive reviews, you can pass this one.

After playing through the whole anthology in order I came to the shocking conclusion that Morrowind was the worst TES game, even more so than Arena which is the most bare bone game of the lot.

Combat system is easily the worst of the series by a long shot, I dont think this even needs to be argued, every other TES game offered a more engaging experience.

Main quest is also the worst of the series, it is actually the only TES game where you are thrown into a world without any relevant directions or goals. You must find a certain guy but really dont have any motivation to do so aside from having nothing else to do.

The quest design is extremely dull and generic. Its on the same level as Arena and Daggerfall but its worse due to the fact that its supposedly hand crafted rather than randomly generated. Its a majority of boring fedex quests and errands. Even the NPCs call them errands. They send you to retrieve ancient artifacts across the street and tell you the exact location. The lack of quest marker does not add any value to the experience.

Dialogue is awful and dumbed down. When asking NPCs for a 'little secret', they respond by telling you that you are allowed to defend yourself in the case where you get attacked first....

Level design is poor overall. Dungeons are copy pasted and said to be hand crafted. Towns feel empty with static NPCs standing there day and night.

Overall this game felt like a massive dumbing down from Daggerfall and was seen as such even 15 years ago by the true cRPG fans.

All of you edgy fanboys can stop bashing Oblivion and Skyrim to praise Morronwind because that game is pure garbage. It truely is the game that marked the decline of the series.

edit: Daggerfall > Oblivion > >Skyrim > Arena > Morronwind

Hmmm, this fellow likes his role play games dumbed down for him. In my opinion Morrowind is the Best of TES. He just wants an easy game to play.

Did you even finish the main quest? You only mention the very first part of it, what about becoming Hortator and reuniting the Ashlanders and Great Houses, and finding out about the big plot points and the different recollections of the battle of Red Mountain? Morrowind, in my opinion, had the coolest lore around the main story.

It is the only TES game where you are thrown into a world without any relevant directions or goals? Actually all TES games are like that. You're a prisoner and a nobody, but suddenly you're revealed to be a prophesised hero and you save the world. Besides Morrowind, that's exactly what happens in Arena, Oblivion and Skyrim as well (I haven't played the other TES, so I don't know about them). Though that is super cliche, the games still turn out to be good, and they all have strong points in different aspects.

Anyway, you didn't enjoy it, so you do you.

Know what is great about Morrowind? No trolls. :)

Also 'marked the decline of the series'? So you think Oblivion and Skyrim are worse than Morrowind, Daggerfall and Arena? Cause that is what you are saying.

Not really sure what the point of your post is. You claim people bash Oblivion and Skyrim for no reason, yet list reasons why Morrowind is such a bad game as facts. Other people have their reasoning for disliking Skyrim and Oblivion. Does it make it fact if others list reasons why Oblivion and Skyrim are bad? No. Everyone has personal preferences, and their own opinion on why a game is good or bad.

I personally love both Morrowind and Oblivion. Skyrim is a good game too. I wouldn't say Morrowind declined the series at all. Morrowind is what in my opinion put Elder Scrolls on the map even further.

I will only refer to combat system part. I may guess you only tried the melee combat, which is, I agree, pretty dull and uninteresting (spam the best kind of attack of your weapon to win). And at the same time Morrowind's magic system is on the whole different level than this of Skyrim (let alone Oblivion).

I laugh how Skyrim boys pretend they love Daggerfall in order to have argument against Morrowind
=CrimsoN= 6. mai 2018 kl. 15.32
Honestly, the only problem I have with Morrowind is its lack of stability, and believe me, I've tried every trick in the book to keep the game from crashing randomly and nothing seems to work. So I've just concluded that Morrowind is a buggy mess and I have to play it in intervals and save very often to avoid save game corruption.

Doing that, its actually pretty awesome. I love the D&D feel of it, which Oblivion and Skyrim are lacking. Skyrim has the best combat system though and Oblivion has the most depth. Morrowind has the best setting and story by far though.

If Bethesda ever created an Elder Scrolls game with the same amount of story depth as Morrowind, gameplay depth of Oblivion and combat of Skyrim on the scale of Daggerfall with thousands of generated cities, towns and dungeons.

It would easily be the greatest RPG ever made.

But every new Elder Scrolls game just keeps getting smaller and smaller it seems... :(
It easy to say this when you're looking back in time. What else was availabel when Morrowind was first released is what the basis was measured against.

True. For the time, it was pretty epic. My jaw was on the floor the first time I entered Seyda Neen. Even though I hate the floaty combat, wikipedia dialog system and snail-like movement, the world is still amazing.
