This is actually the worst TES game...
For anyone wondering if you should buy this game or not because of the positive reviews, you can pass this one.

After playing through the whole anthology in order I came to the shocking conclusion that Morrowind was the worst TES game, even more so than Arena which is the most bare bone game of the lot.

Combat system is easily the worst of the series by a long shot, I dont think this even needs to be argued, every other TES game offered a more engaging experience.

Main quest is also the worst of the series, it is actually the only TES game where you are thrown into a world without any relevant directions or goals. You must find a certain guy but really dont have any motivation to do so aside from having nothing else to do.

The quest design is extremely dull and generic. Its on the same level as Arena and Daggerfall but its worse due to the fact that its supposedly hand crafted rather than randomly generated. Its a majority of boring fedex quests and errands. Even the NPCs call them errands. They send you to retrieve ancient artifacts across the street and tell you the exact location. The lack of quest marker does not add any value to the experience.

Dialogue is awful and dumbed down. When asking NPCs for a 'little secret', they respond by telling you that you are allowed to defend yourself in the case where you get attacked first....

Level design is poor overall. Dungeons are copy pasted and said to be hand crafted. Towns feel empty with static NPCs standing there day and night.

Overall this game felt like a massive dumbing down from Daggerfall and was seen as such even 15 years ago by the true cRPG fans.

All of you edgy fanboys can stop bashing Oblivion and Skyrim to praise Morronwind because that game is pure garbage. It truely is the game that marked the decline of the series.

And speaking of Daggerfall, while I like it and I think it is masterpiece RPG, level scaling is too terrible. after level 20, dungeon is full of vampire ancient that can kill me within 1 second. the only way to kill them is using spell absorb magic, mashing cast button for healing and swing mouse like crazy. it makes me tired of combat. it's not fun, it's just chore to mashing button.

and even Oblivion and skyrim also have that level of terrible level scaling.
In Oblivion, raising level make game boring because HP of enemy keep increases as my level increases but damage can not be increased after weapon skill 100+ strength 100. so increasing level just increases hp of enemy and make combat worse.

in skyrim, as a mage, I played it like FPS.
I killed everything in Blackreach with firebolt.
but when I get out of that place, a saber cat kill me instantly.
I can't do any harm even I beat everything in the biggest dungeon.
I can't stand with this stupid level scaling. it's just madness.

Oblivion scaling is broken, as for you having trouble in SKYRIM... Idk what to say. That game is easy as it gets.

Level scaling also have huge problem in skyrim.
increasing one hand weapon and smithing, it makes game too easy.
I just keep mashing mouse and everything is dead.

but if I choose to increase magic skills to increase my level, it makes game too hard.

or if I increase other skills that are not tied with combat . it still makes enemy stronger.

in 3 and 4, I can choose not to increase level by not increasing major skills.
but ins skyrim, everything increases level and it would be bad choice to increase wrong skill. so skyrim didn't solved level scaling problem, actually, for some aspect, it's getting worse because I can't choose not to increase my level.

it's not me but magic of skyrim is too weak to follow level scaling.
I played skyrim for three times and tried warrior, assassin and magician.
other play-throughs were fine but for magician.. being magician in skyrim is sucks.

There is a level cap for every enemy so......

Bad level scaling does hurt the RPing experience. I found lategame in DF to be a joke way before L20, I min maxed following a guide too. You should have custom defense spells ready and its easy.
It's not hard, as I said, use spell absorb magic, spamming restore magic and attack can solve.
but it makes me tired of combat. all enemy for same annoying solution. this is too much for me.

I mean, I kill many vampire ancient and lich to survive and I success. but my quest target is just killing a mummy which is about level 2 enemy.

I know the solution is easy. I just restart game, make spell absorb character.
but repeating it makes me tired of it.

Actually, it wasn't that great game at that time.
Because there was Ultima underworld which have the best technology and best level design among 3D games in that time.

Talking about Daggerfall? I wouldnt know I wasnt into PC gaming at that time. I know it wasnt that great because of the bugs.

As year passes and games get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, DF only stands out more from the crowd with its technical design.

Daggerfall is also one of the greatest game at that time. but for dungeon designs and puzzles, I think UU is far much better.

Bug is just small annoying thing and I don't care about that. even with bugs, DF is still great and there's no game that followed DF's way. DF also enhanced technology a lot so DF also have lighting and gravity which Arena doesn't have.

but puzzles and level design of UU is so great that other games hard to match with that.
even inferior version of UU, Arx Fatalis is also great dungeon game.

Hehe, spot-on about combat system, but actually all of the tes games has atrocious combat. Oblivion/skyrim feels like beating a wooden doll with a dildo, and prior games like swinging wii controller at an enemy and waiting for something to happen.

Still, Morrowind is easily the most athmospheric game of the series, and most of it mechanics are midway between streamlined & boring of Oblivion and Skyrim, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane of Daggerfall.
