There are too few caves/temples/etc to explore and they all are really well hidden for whatever reason. After 5 hours into the game the random encounters in the wild are just too easy to keep the game fun so for 80% of the time you just have to walk from point A to point B in the main story to get to the fun part.It would've been tolerable but as you walk so slowly it's just boring. All the side quests I've done so far are boring and simple.I don't understand the people who say this game has one of the best quests in the series.I understand starting from the bottom and working your way up in factions for instance but that's not an excuse to make boring quests.
I absolutely loved Oblivion and Skyrim and I really hate that Morrowind couldn't hold my interest. The game also has a ton of problems on Windows 10(At least for me)so I had to play vanilla Morrowind without any fixes just to be able to play the game. This is one of those games that only aged well if you're nostalgic towards it.
It has better combat, better dungeons, a better story, better writing.
Haha yeah! Arena was a great game!
24 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years ago
of course dungeon is better than maybe 3 and far much better than 4 and 5 but I can't say it's good dungeon. it's weaker than FPS'. it is better than 5 for sure because dungeons of 5 are just a line. but compare with 3, while many dungeons are too simple, there are some decent dungeons that require flying, swimming and other 3D ways unlike Arena which is 2.5D.
combat of TES always bad and Arena doesn't have that good combat.
and for story... eh.. I never heard of the brotherhood of Baal except for the Arena.
and you said dungeon of Morrowind is copy pasted. but both Arena and Daggerfall have more copy pasted dungeons. didn't they? that was the trick how they add tons of dungeon. reusing patterns of dungeon to create random dungeons. and most parts of the dungeons of Daggerfall are just a small tomb as I remember. it's like 70% of small tombs, 20% of randomly generated dungeons and 10% of handmade dungeon. Daggerfall still has more handmade and larger dungeon than any other TES even with 10% though. and 20% of randomly generated dungeons are still great.
and same as Daggerfall, you can use flying in the dungeon plus you can dive unlike Daggerfall. No dive in Arena.
it is your opinion so I don't have to disagree but I just say some of what you said is wrong.
especially Arena and about copy pasted dungeons.
Arena is like King's field 1. It have little value to play and both of them are dumbed downed from Ultima underworld.
I can agree that Morrowind is dumbed down from Daggerfall for some aspect, but I can say the direction of TES changed between Daggerfall and after Daggerfall.
Daggerfall was about real sandbox.
Simulated world that is alive, huge world that is generated randomly, random quest and dates.
and also, Daggerfall has a decent non linear plot.
but after Daggerfall, TES is no longer about real sandbox. they are about a world that is already created.
no simulated world that is alive. no special date no kingdoms that requires your choice.
It's totally different direction.
Combat in Arena is better, not by a lot, but still better. It requires more input and reflexes than Morrowind.
Morrowind has 'hand crafted' content but it isnt well crafted enough to beat the random dungeons.
The writing in Arena is objectively better than Morrowind just because it doesnt have immersion breaking lines or 4th wall breaking stuff.
In short, Arena is bad as King's field 1.
it's just cheap copy of Ultima underworld.
nothing better than that and leveling is worse than sequels.
and I already said there aren't enough physical requirement in Arena.
it's 2.5D and dungeons are not as good as real dungeon games like Arx fatalis. it's just quantity over quality. at least I enjoy explore main plot dungeons in Morrowind but not in Arena.
and for Morrowind, It is the game part to find out what is wrong with the world and what should I do. it is the basic part of RPG.
with your logic, Ultima 4, which is grea RPG also have bad story since goal is not certain when you start the game. actually, finding out what to do is the main part.
and your logic also tells that Daggerfall's story is also bad.
because you start with ambiguous goal not certain goal in Daggerfall.
Emperor didn't say anything about Underking. didn't he?
and if you want combat with more reflex requirement, don't play RPG.
I never saw any good RPG with decent reflex requirement though I played a lot of RPGs with open world and with actions.
you better play action games like Darksoul.
