The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

100k in 30 minutes at level 1. Quick start guide.
I did this yesterday. I started timing it after I created my character.

**Seyda Neen**

Census office - take the usual stuff, everything from the table and shelf. Take the ring from the barrel and give it Fargoth. When you get outside run to the top of the nearby lighthouse and take the book and drinks.

Go to the store and sell all the junk. Buy a basic weapon and as many frost damage scrolls as you can afford.

Rest in front of the smuggler cave until the assassin attacks and one shot him with a scroll. Rest a few more times and see if you can get another assassin quickly. Either way sell the armor and buy an Almsivi Intervention scroll and some more frost scrolls. Ignore everything else here and go to Balmora.

**Balmora**

Go to Ravirr's shop by the Mages Guild. Kill him with 2 frost scrolls and take his 3000g weapon and 9000g weapon.

Go to the potion shop and buy an invisibility potion and a healing potion. Go to the guard tower behind Caius's house, drink the invis potion, stand behind the guard and pull the enchanted ebony sword off of the dresser. Talk to Caius since you're right there.

Go to the Mages Guild, stand on the desk and steal all of the soulgems. Buy a couple of fire damage scrolls.

Go back to Seyda Neen, on the coast just to the west of town is a tomb. Kill the ghosts with the fire scrolls. Open the jar at the end and take the Mentors Ring - 8000g artifact. You will take damage from the jar - drink your healing potion.

Use your Almsivi Intervention and you will be in Balmora. Take the Mages Guild teleporter to Caldera.

**Caldera**

If you're not new you know what to do now. Sell all your stuff piecemeal to Creeper, taking back items when you sell the more expensive items. The last item you sell is the 60,000g Twilight soul gem - in exchange for his entire inventory. Then you sell it all back to him. I had about 99.5k exactly at the 30 minute mark.

Then go to Balmora and buy gear and train into the 20's. I like to rest in the Fighter's Guild bedroom - if you get an assassin half the time he'll get stuck in the bunk beds.

Damn right! Been doing this routine every time I start for the last 17 years. Plus or minus a few things. Ravirr, soul gems in Balmora mages guild, and a few assassins armor sets and you can pretty get to level 20-21 and have 3-5 maxed attributes with efficient level training. All before you even venture out of Balmora lmao. Morrowind is the best game ever.

... and what do you do with all the money? An idea: Spend another 2 or 3 or 4 hours to make it a million (it's possible, not even extremely difficult)?
Well, if that's what motivates you to play Morrowind, so be it. Have fun!

OR I just enter

player->additem "gold_001" 40000

into the console command (or whatever numbers suits you but 40K is a safe number). That's cool that someone figured that out though. Sometimes I try to earn money legitimately in Elder Scrolls games but I also can't help getting impatient. At least in Morrowind those Dark Brotherhood assassins really help you out early on (and even later on) since their armor has such value.

I train to level 20 so I'm not a blind, noodle armed, stuck in molasses excuse for a hero.

I've had the game since it was released (long before steam) so I've played it the "right" way enough times. Just bypassing the terrible mechanics that a level 1 character has to deal with.

+1 to that. Run a bit faster, actually hit things when i swing my weapon once in a while. I love the struggle... but not that much.
Plenty of ways to make early $$$$.

My go to is to just get a Dai-katana and trade with the Mudcrab merchant. It has been so long I don't even recall what cave to find the katana in.

When I was 13 my method was to steal the platter, books, keep Fargoths ring, stop by the Ancestral tomb for the easter egg ring and then be in Balmora to kill some rats. Life was a lot simpler in 2007 lol

Very understandable. I once used a similar (though a little less efficient) method: Played a mage character with destruction and restoration, where you get a simple attack and a simple healing spell when you start, killed one of the assassins just outside of Seyda Neen for his armour, then travelled to Mournhold, killed lots of assassins in the sewers (but avoided the boss) and sold their armour to merchants in Mournhold. Got mark, recall, intervention, levitation spells for easier travelling and fighting, a few stronger attack and healing spells - there is no need to buy any weapons, armour, potions, etc., unless you want to. This lets you use the guy in Caldera for selling your stuff, too, without losing too much time. Moreover, the assassins in the Mournhold sewers respawn over time, too - a neverending source of income.
By simply doing this you easily get to level 5 - 10 (or higher) and can move around freely in most of Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon. You still can't defeat every monster, but you can outrun (or rather outfly) them all.
It's terribly cheating by exploiting Morrowind's built-in design flaws, but, just like you, after having played Morrowind a few times "by the rules", I thought I had deserved an easy run-through at least once :-).

Technically this is the right way. Caius even tells you to go do it.

And I feel like the Balmora mages guild missions set you right up to become rich quick. A 60,000 gold soul gem right after collecting some mushrooms and flowers? Alrighty then!

Technically you can make an OP-as-hell character that remains at level 1-3 for the entire game. Training helps, but isn’t necessary for ‘bypassing the terrible mechanics’.

Morrowind is open ended enough for there not to be a definitive ‘right way’ to play the game. Some people like bumrushing early resources , some people like playing gimped characters with flaws, some like finding numerous ways to break the game and thereafter find creative ways to speedrun entire questlines in under an hour, etc.

So long as you’re having fun, it’s the right way.

Try making 100k in 30 minutes when playing the Morrowind Hardcore Mode mod.
