The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

I'm overwhelmed and don't know what to do
I started playing morrowind for the first time in probably 10 years. I played for probably 20-30 hours before, and that is the farthest I've ever gotten. Going back, I have no idea what I should be doing.

I've been playing for 5 hours so far and haven't gained a level. I've done all the quests is sedya neen, went through that starting smugglers cave, did a thieves guild quest in balmora, visited the first blades guy and did two fighters guild quests, then went to gnisis and joined the imperial legion. Does anyone have any suggestions on something I can do next?

Increasing any random skill is not going to gain you levels, you have to be raising your major and minor skills.

Also, I find the game most fun when you try to roleplay your character, instead of systematically vacuuming areas for quests - where does your character want to go and why? The game, like its predecessor, expects you to take a responsibility to roleplay your character and in my opinion it makes all the difference.

I'm roleplaying a character that wants to get stronger as soon as possible

In that case you could use trainers as well.
I'm not asking how to level up, I'm asking where the content is that is appropriate for my power level

When you level up the game will spawn new tougher enemies appropriate for your level along side with old enemies throughout the world, if that's what you're asking.

Ah Ok, I just don't think in this way at all while playing, as it gets a bit too meta for my taste. It is hard to give general advice on that since the difficulty level varies a lot on Vvardenfell particularly. The Solstheim content and the Mournhold content is more consistent in difficulty level (Tribunal probably being the hardest). What kind of character are you playing, it sounds more like the fighter type? If so, you might consider joining House Redoran? Or have a go at some Daedric ruins on the west coast?

Yes, but doesn't that only apply to creatures? NPCs should stay the same throughout the game.
I just watched all of this guys videos on the different mechanics and afterwards had a lot more fun with the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhlzWANPvxE
Yep, now you are a morrowind genius and should get my Morrowind Hardcore Mode mod since the vanilla game will now be too easy for you.

If you're only lvl 1, you should be able to grind XP in the area between Seyda Neen and Balmora for your major/minor skills or buy training. Just pick a direction and go exploring, you'll level up in no time.

Hit F1 to assign weapons, armor, enchanted goods, potions and spells to hotkeys 1-9. (Hit F1 again to exit)

The Steed sign starts you off with +25 speed, a huge difference because you start pretty slow but there are better signs that give you a larger magicka pool or a ranged 60 second paralyze power, etc.

Caldera merchant has a cheap Ring of Aversion, invisibility for 10 secs, plenty of time to steal an item.

Fifth Ald'ruhn mages guild quest gives you amulets of divine and Almsivi intervention, extremely useful for escaping danger or getting your loot back to town.

Mark/recall, no explanation needed.

If you set mark/recall near the mudcrab merchant, you can easily get back to the world by casting Almsivi THEN divine intervention. This will take you to Molag Mar then Sadrith Mora.

If that isn't enough fast travel for you, you might be inclined to collect the propylon indices.

Make a ring or amulet of restore all 8 attributes by 3-5 or more if you can afford it, this is absolutely necessary in late game.

Sell most of your potions, they're confusing if you have too many. If you enchanted the item above, you won't need any restore str/agi/end potions.

If you have a lot of cast-when-used enchanted goods, you can spend a long time searching for a constant-effect item. Try choosing a distinct color or model to easily identify it.

Damn near every action you take like persuasion, barter, spellcasting, alchemy, is affected by your current fatigue.

0% Fatigue = -50% chance to succeed
50% Fatigue = Normal chance to succeed
100% Fatigue = +50% chance to succeed
