Every class in the game has 10 skills, and they're divided into Major and Minor skills, with five skills in each group. Every time one of those skills improves, it counts towards your level gain, and when there have been 10 improvements in those skills, you gain a level. The points you have to distribute are dependent upon the skills you've been using most heavily. Since different skills depend on different stats, you want to avoid depending too heavily on increasing any particular set of stats. Otherwise, it could end up crippling you in terms of character development. So I would advise you that at least one of your level-up selections should always be Agility, since Marksmanship depends on it, and archers need good Marksmanship.

Some weapons can make your damage more consistent early on, such as crossbows, but later you're gonna want the high damage bows. Wood elves make excellent archers, and their beast tongue power is pretty fun to mess around with.
Getting +5 in 2 or 3 attriubute each level leads to a boring gameplay.
However you should know that weapon damage scale with strengh, which is the most important attribute for bow (unintuitively). Using a melee weapon to increase your strenght early game is a good idea.
Agility improve hit rate but only marginaly. A maxed out weapon skill is enough for 100% hit.
Therefore agility is almost useless for ranged weapons, but is somewhat usefull for other things like evasion, discretion etc.
Endurance, speed and luck are important for any characters.
