The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

My Sneak level is at 115 yet I still get caught pick pocketing almost every time?
What is this?

Sneak[en.uesp.net]

Specifically, this line: "Without an optional patch from the Morrowind Code Patch, pickpocket chance is effectively capped at 56% as it is rolled twice with a cap of 75% both when taking an item and when closing the pickpocket window. Item weight is also not factored in without the patch." The next line also notes that high-value items are nearly impossible to steal even at 100 Sneak.

Luck 100?
Honestly, that's probably how it should work, this is one of those "Patched" things I consider a regression/mod, and why I don't use Code Patch.

Funny as it is to undress people, yanking the plate armor off someone is not something that you should be able to do via pickpocket. I relegate the whole undressing thing, to something that should (And could) be done, using Illusion (Paralysis) and KO (Hand to Hand)
i also wanna say that stamina affects both lockpicking and sneak( so prob pickpocket aswell) so should have full fatigue bar when doing these shady actions :D
Unlike other games, Sneak is not a magical skill. You never get a magical 100% success against people who have senses.
I mean, I don't think one has to have magical sneak abilities to have a decent chance of pickpocketing someone who's not paying attention (otherwise, well, people would rarely bother trying to pickpocket IRL).

It would be neat if there was some way of having it be a higher chance in some settings than others (eg busy tavern, probably been drinking, easier to pickpocket, traders who would be suspicious because you'd have to have come behind their counter to get close enough, very hard to pickpocket, sort of thing) but I'm guessing that'd be quite hard to set up, if not impossible (honestly don't know enough about the modding tools to know.)
If you have 500 luck you'll never get caught pickpocketing.

You already can't do that, you can only take items the NPC doesn't have equipped, or can't equip. Pickpocket is essentially useless without the code patch, seriously like the guy said 100 luck and 115 sneak isn't enough to do it reliably at all. That's really stupid, and I would go as far as to say it's another bad coding job by Bethesda, like how you repair weapons and armor more efficiently when you're out of stamina rather than when you have full stamina. Besides barely anyone has anything worth pickpocketing off them at all, burglarizing homes will get you way more money than pickpocketing ever will.

From the description in MCP of how it worked originally, yeah, it's obviously bugged. There's no reason to check for success twice, and with a single check even the original numbers kinda work out (though I'd say it's still a bit harsh).
It also seems a bit silly not to use the code patch just because you don't like some features when pretty much every single feature can be enabled or disabled, and most can be safely changed in an existing save, from what I know.
