The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Tamriel Rebuilt Not Working Model Errors
I just get tons of model load errors and crashes whenever I get near the mainland. I already went into Morrowind.ini and tried to register the BSAs. I think I have the right load order for the mods but I don't know how to change it

That sounds like Tamriel_Data is likely missing. Could you double-check that you installed it?
See the first half of the warning: https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/downloads/main-release

For changing the mod order, use Wrye Mash: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45439

If Tamriel data is missing would the mainland still be on my world map? I also made it to Firewatch a few times and there were the squares with exclamation marks everywhere, and then it crashed from animation errors.
I couldn't figure out how to install Wrye mash...

I really want to make this mod work, any other suggestions?

Sorry, forgot to reply. Been busy with work... ironically, IT support. Heh.

Hm.

Are there any errors/warnings during initial game load? Could you post the contents of the log file (at least part of it), if any? (I think the log file is SteamApps\common\Morrowind\Warnings.txt.)

No errors on game load, part of the Warnings file says this:

Hmm. My keen debugging instincts say that those "Morrowind will crash!" lines are suspicious.

Heh.

Anyway, double, triple, and quadruple check that the BSAs are properly registered.
Your Morrowind.ini file should contain something like:
[Archives] Archive 0=Morrowind.bsa Archive 1=Bloodmoon.bsa Archive 2=Tribunal.bsa Archive 3=TR_Data.bsa Archive 4=pt_data.bsa
Also try extracting the Tamriel_Data archive once more. (Be sure to extract the entire thing, not e.g. just the TR_Data.bsa.)

Confirm that both the Tamriel_Data.esm and TR_Mainland.esm are active. Not sure if the order is important, but for me Tamriel_Data is earlier than TR_Mainland.

If you're using any of the additional content (TR_Factions.esp, TR_Preview.esp, TR_Travels.esp) check that it's active as well.

Try temporarily disabling all other mods -- maybe there's a conflict somewhere. I don't think it would break like that, but it's worth a shot.

Check that Tamriel_Data was properly downloaded (checksums are available on https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/downloads/resources , you should be able to use something like RapidCRC[www.ov2.eu] to see if they're correct).

BTW, what issue did you have with installing Wrye Mash? It helps a lot with installing (and uninstalling) mods, especially the reordering is a godsend; using it may help you solve the TR problem, so let's see if we can get it working.

I tried to register the BSAs in several different forms, re-downloaded and extracted Tamriel data, got the non-python Wrye Mash and changed the dates, tried turning off preview, factions and travels, I don't have any other mods, and I'm getting the exact same problem.

Checking the FAQ on the TR homepage ( https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/about/frequently-asked-questions/bsa ), I saw:
* I installed Tamriel Rebuilt and I keep seeing exclamation marks everywhere!
* I’m getting “actor has no animation class” errors!
* I coc to Firewatch and my game crashes after a ton of error messages!
* I’m getting crazy error messages about missing meshes and missing items.

In short: Your BSAs are almost certainly not registered, so Morrowind can’t find them.
Since you do have some of those in your warnings.txt, I think that'd be the most likely culprit.

You mentioned you tried registering the BSAs in "several different forms"; may I ask what those were? I'm a bit suspicious, since I know only of one of them -- editing the Morrowind.ini in the game's folder (SteamApps\common\Morrowind\Morrowind.ini). The FAQ I linked above has the instructions (both text and video), so it may be worth a shot to try again.

If you want me to look it over, post your Morrowind.ini on Pastebin and post the link here.

Another thing: if the game is installed in Program Files, Windows file protection or antivirus/anti-malware may be interfering. If you have another partition, try creating a new Steam library on it and install there (Steam client menu -> Steam -> Settings -> Downloads tab -> Steam Library Folders). It may be possible to create it on the same drive as well, e.g., in C:\Games or something; I've never tried.

Also, did you run Morrowind Code Patch? If not, do it -- it fixes a lot of bugs.

I tried changing the order of the archives, I tried adding Archive 0=Morrowind.bsa, I tried it as Archive #= PT_Data, pt_data, etc. I heard there was a hidden second Morrowind.ini and I think that might be my problem, but I couldn't find it and I read that it might not exist for Morrowind on Steam.

Yah, I have only one Morrowind.ini, the one in the game directory. IIRC, if there is another one, it's somewhere in Documents, but it may be required to create it manually.

Anyway, could you post your Morrowind.ini on Pastebin?

Well now what.

Tried running my game with your Morrowind.ini, it works just fine. Created a new character, coc'ed to Ebonheart, and used no-collision cheat to fly to Old Ebonheart. No errors whatsoever, either in town or in surrounding countryside.

(Couldn't test it on a clean-ish install though; my game is heavily modded, and some of those mods can't be removed without completely nuking the install. It's possible that something else helped get TR working. I didn't add any BSAs, ESMs, or ESPs to your mod selection, though.)

I did try one more thing. I renamed the TR BSAs, the game started with no complaints, and then I got something similar to what you describe in the first post... though with an added bonus of a full GPU crash. So, can you double-check that you put TR_Data.bsa and pt_data.bsa directly in the Data Files directory? Not in the root game directory, not in a subfolder in Data Files.

You said you redownloaded TR_Data, but still, do try running a checksum program on the files, just to be sure they're not broken. Here are mine (SHA1), for TR_Data HD version 6.1:
ba5864674277e12f2712d1bafb512db6799650c7 *pt_data.bsa 4b3d8f575a4304eff07e0508e8fedb2e233cca6f *TR_Data.bsa

Also search your PC for any stray Morrowind.ini files that may be interfering with the one in the game's directory. It could be that something overrides the BSA registration. (I suggest using Everything.[www.voidtools.com])

And finally:

Okay now I redownloaded Tamriel Data and found the PT_data and TR_data files which I hadn't seen before, and now the model errors are finally gone. But now I'm getting sound file not found errors every few seconds... and running code patch couldn't fix them. But thank you very much for your help piccolo

Glad to hear it!

Are the errors happening only in the TR areas, or also in the mainland? Did you copy over the entire "Data Files" directory from Tamriel Data archive? Not just the ESM and BSA files, but also all of the subdirectories?

If that doesn't fix it, please post the Warning.txt again :)
Sevenuptwofour Oct 4, 2019 @ 9:27pm
I haven't noticed the errors on the main island. Is there any way I could have other sounds or no sound play when I get the errors? Because in some cases the error just happens continuously and the game has to be closed.
