For missing meshes, I have found the exact missing mesh in a sub folder in the Meshes main folder. If the file isn't where the game is looking for it, there will be a problem. If you find it already in your meshes folder, you can just make a copy of it & paste it into the location it wants so you have 2 files.
You can also try finding the missing mesh in another download. Or, I have also taken a very similar mesh, copied it, renamed it, and put that in the spot it wants.
If you don't have that many mods, try disabling them & testing them one at a time to see which mod is causing the problem.
Also, if you are using mods, you are also hopefuly using Wrye Mash & MLOX, which can alert to some problems and conflicts.
Also, when you have an issue, posting your load order list can also be helpful. Some people can just look at the load list and spot problems.
Anyway, hope that helps.
However, you raise a good point. One place to look is the contents of the download file itself. If the missing file or files is in one of the folders in the download, then it definitely didn't install right.
However, you still need to narrow down which mod is causing the problem. One thing you can try for that is to open the console using the ~ key, click on the offending object, & type ORI, then enter. That usually will tell you the source of the object/NPC. This is very helpful if it is coming from a mod.
