Tomb Sound Stuck On
Is there some way to patch a game / save to fix this? Everywhere I go, it sounds like I'm in an ancestral tomb. The ghost whispering ambient sound never stops playing. I've tried entering and exiting different areas with different ambient sounds, but it's still there. Any ideas?

So, finally, I found the cause (and therefore solution) to this problem.

It's all about this :poop:ty mod (Magic Diversity -COMPLETE-) https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43380/
With this plugin the player will hear an actual noise when he's under the effects of the Sound magic. Its volume depends on the total magnitude of the effect.
The noise is the "magic sound" (Fx\magic\sound.wav) from the game files that was left unused for some reason.
Requires Morrowind Code Patch.

Even though I didn't install this mod, I found the folder \Steam Games\steamapps\common\Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\Fx\magic inside which there was the infamous sound.wav.
I simply deleted it and the noise went away!

I BEGUN TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM WHEN I INSTALLED THE MORROWIND CODE PATCH.

I don't know which option caused this sound to appear because I didn't read each and every option, but "just so you know", if you install it, it will corrupt all of your savegames with this :poop:.

Have fun.
Usually mods cause those problems before that is why I play vanilla
It would be wise to just backup your saves before installing any new mod.

MGE, for example, is a really awesome mod that greatly improves the graphic and few technical aspects of Morrowind (IE, auto-hide/show crosshair) without altering the game mechanics.
The same glitch happened to me while using the magic diversity mod, and the effects of having sound (reduced chance of using spells) was permamently stuck on me... on a pure mage character.. Was not fun, thank god I had a save RIGHT before it happened.

This worked for me. THANKS!!!

I had a sound debuff from wearing armor due to one of my many mods, cant remember which. This stupid sound was constant. Deleting the sound.wav fixed it.

That's not a solution.
If you have Sound magic debuff that causes you to hear whispering and have an increased chance to fail casting spells, it works as intended and is part of vanilla game.
To fix this properly you should get rid of the magic effect, not the sound file. Perhaps remove the mod that causes it to appear
