Graphics Overhaul Mods
ive been looking up graphics overhaul mods but i havent been able to find what kind of computer specs you need for any of them. i actualy think the graphics are pretty playable, but it would be cool if they were better. however my computer is hot garbage and Morrowind is basically the only game i have that is without lag and id like to not change that, or at least not much.

ive got: Windows 7, Intel Duo-Core 2.93ghz processor, 6GB of Ram, and an Intel Q45/Q43 Express Chipset (not even a real graphics card, just integrated one)

would anyone know if any decent graphics overhauls (preferably from Nexus with a NMM install option) should run without lag, or with very little on that (assuming i dispose of all corpses)? Graphics Overhaul 3.0 is the one i was hoping for.

Well... I dont know of any graphic overhaul mods that work for really low end pc`s... But what you could do is download texture mods individually and install them that way so you can get the perfect balance of performance and looks. Of course if you wanted the fog gone you would still have to install MGE XE and stuff. All of this stuff is on the Morrowind Nexus. Uhm... Also most of the time to be safe, its better to manually install texture mods for Morrowind as its old and the Mod Manager usually messes something up with it. Its not hard at all and its actually faster.

Like at the moment, I have about 60 texture mods installed. It takes longer than the overhauls but its more stable and it looks amazing. You can see some of it in my Morrowind Screenshots. But I also have MGE XE installed which lets you see further and all that. Not sure if that will crush performance or not.

Makes sense. actually the reason i was hoping for NMM mods wasnt difficulty related, im by no means a master, and i dont really understand what it is that im doing (at least from how it works from a programming stance) but i can generally install mods manually with no problem (best example probably being for New Vegas for which I have Tale Of Two Wastelands, a mod that removes the sneak sight from Lonesome Road riot gear, and the WMX mods which i had to use to create new mods (there was directions on how to do so on TTWs site) so it would they would be compatible with TTW.

What is the fog mod your talking about? does that fix the thing where if your in fog or underwater any enchanted items basically just look solid white?

I was hoping for NMM mods cause i actually dont think Morrowinds graphics are THAT bad to begin with and i didnt want to put a whole lot of effort into changing something thats already totally playable, but looking back on it i suppose it is actually easier to do it manually (at least for texture type stuff) because that way your just copy and pasting files and you know what files youve added and can just delete them all to go back to normal and dont have to worry about looking through lines of code to find changes.

I did find a mod (Better Bodies) thats supposed to fix the segmented look of bodies (which is the biggest issue with Morrowind's graphics IMO), that one in particular i heard is supposed to be the whole package (for humans, elves, orcs, and beast races) although it doesnt specify if it is or not and the rest of them on nexus specified for humans/elves/orcs only. whether its the whole package or not it doesnt seem to fix the beast races or even all NPCs beast races, but the original publisher of those mods isnt around anymore from what i understand so thats probably about the best ill get it.

Well the fog, I mean the rendering distance. Like you know how things kind of fade in as you go? The mod would make it so things fade in so much farther away to the point where you don`t see it. Basically improving the feeling of the game by a ton.
Yeah the texture ones aren`t hard at all. Just throw em in your Morrowind Data folder and they should all go in where they belong for the most part unless the mod author states differently.
But yes better Bodies, that mod is awesome. I use it, with better bodies you will also want to install Better Heads, without it you will often see the heads not really matching the bodies. From what I remember it does the Elves, and the Human races. You will need to download a seperate mod for the Beast races which I know of and use. Its not on Nexus, but its a safe site, almost like the Nexus.

Another option would be openmw (which is a free reimplementation of the Beth engine, you need the original assets though). It works with alot of mods -i.e- better bodies/heads-, not all though, mcp and other stuff that deals with the original engine are obviously a nogo.
Performance is much better than vanilla MW, it looks better than vanilla MW and, unlike the original game, it's rock stable.
It requires abit of reading, no quantum physics....
Otherwise, with your specs, large texture packs are most likely not possible, at least with the original engine

be sure to back up your datafolder, so you can revert back.
