The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Spear Vs Short Blade?
Title. Mainly for a heavy enchanter and assassin (since I wanna join the morag tong this playthrough, so I'm not looking to carry any sort of unfitting weapons like big hammers/swords, axes, maces etc.

The biggest downside with the spears is that the very best ones are already enchanted (Spear of the Hunter, Spear of Bitter Mercy, Greed, Illkurok). They do have range but so do staves and the Ebony Staff has great enchantment potential. The best unenchanted spear is either the Daedric Spear or the Glass Halberd. The Daedric Spear is heavy (42lbs) compared to the Halberd (8.4lbs), but the Halberd has almost no enchantment potential.

Ultimately I think it's clear that Short Blade will suit you better. The Daedric Wakizashi is excellent and has fairly okay enchantment potential.

For the lvl multiplier's, Spear is Endurance, Short Blade is Speed. You might be wasting multipliers choosing one vs the other, depending on how you view it.

Why not both? They are governed by different attributes, both of which are important. Spear would be good to have if you're not taking medium or heavy armor.

I love short blade, once you level up your speed and the short blade skill, you will hit so fast and stagger your enemies so often, they won't land any hits on you.

Speed determines your movement speed, nothing else. If you wanted accuracy, to constantly hit the enemy so they stagger, it would be agility.

Yes, agility if essential to hit stuff. I thought the swing speed is slightly influenced by the speed attribute like in Daggerfall, for some reason.

Every weapon has a different speed attack, look at the speed section in all weapons:

Curiously this is possible with spears too, not by speed, because weapons are slow and perform attacks in thrust mode is even slower, but by reach. And spears are a bit more effective for silt striders justly by this long reach, you can hit enemies that are farther away not allowing them approach enough to attack.

Yeah, you become overpowered with any weapon type anyway.
I would pick whatever my I feel better suited for my character's backstory.

Anyways isn't simply a question of the usual overpowered high levels, but the style of combat is very different. With some weapons you must be really closer to the target, with different weapons you must use the chop, thrust or slash depending of in which you can do more damage, some weapons has special bonus as low level daggers (chitin, iron, steel) that have a 100% maximum damage with thrust (thought for stealth attacks?), with some light weapons (as daggers again) you don't need to put too much attention in fatigue if you start the combat with the full bar, because they consume a tiny percentage, but with others as the powerfull warhammers you need to put a lot of attention on fatigue as they consume half a bar in one attack. In general combat in Morrowind changes a lot depending of the weapon choosen.

Generally I go 2 weapons skills for that exact reason... or simply be a ♥♥♥♥ and use paralysis enchantments, lol.

Not trying to dissuade your character choice, but outside of the Enchant skill making your enchanted items use less charge, it's ultimately not as good as paying NPCs to make items for you without using some tedious exploits. Constant Effect enchanting is impossible without using those tedious exploits, for example. Gold quickly becomes irellevant so spending it on expensive enchantments is really all it's for outside of skill training.
