Stuck at Wizard rank in House Telvanni...

Hi. I was wondering if anyone else has had trouble advancing to Master in House Telvanni. The second phase of my stronghold is complete and I've recruited a Mouth. Each time I request advancement, Aryon tells me I need to perform more chores. My journal states that Aryon promoted me to Master after I recruited a Mouth, but I'm still listed as a Wizard on my character panel.

I read about the Master rank bug on UESP, but I'm one rank beneath that. Any suggestions? I still have two or three quests to do for Aryon. I'm hoping that I'll still be able to reach the rank of Archmagister.

3 things I can think of, but they are through trial and error...

1. Have you tried reloading to a save before getting a mouth and talking to him about the promotion (and before the journal entry saying you have become Master), and trying again?

2. If he says you need to do more chores, try doing quests from the other Telvanni councilors if you haven't done all yet. (Save before doing that)

Faction rank, for any of the factions, is not dependent soley on quests. You also need to have faction-specific attributes at certain levels, and you need to meet certain levels in specific skills (which ones differ between factions).

I haven't tried reloading because I remember requesting advancement after the last 3-4 quests I did for him.

One of the rewards for recruiting a Mouth is the promotion to Wizard rank, according to the UESP quest page. I'm already a Wizard, so I wonder if I advanced sooner than I was meant to. I've never completed the game, but I did have another character join House Telvanni. While playing that character, I completed most of the quests for the mouths in the council chambers before approaching Master Aryon for chores. This time around, I asked him for chores and advancement to Mouth before I did some of theirs.

I just hope I'm not experiencing the "Master bug" early because one of the notes on the UESP site states that doing additional quests for other councilors will not change anything. I'll just keep doing chores and hope for the best.

I have one skill at 70, one at 72, and I think most of my others are at 40+. My Enchant skill is 49, I believe. That's why I was expecting to reach Master rank before now.

Well, I wish you the best of luck! If anything goes wrong, there are commands for updating quests in your journal (doesn't seem to be the problem now) and raising your rank in a faction:

Thank you for trying to help me. I did one more chore for Aryon and he finally promoted me. I'm relieved, except now I have to challenge Gothren. :gulp: :-)
