The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

First timer in Morrowind, do the guild quests be extremely boring and repetive?
I am in about 5 hours in the game and completed several mages and fighters quests and all have too litle story and they are mostly fetch and kill quests. Why people claiming this game to have the best world? Does it get better later?

"Wehhhh, I don't get to kill a dragon every 5 minutes. Fetch quests suck!"

Sorry, I had to.

It doesn't "get better" because it's already pretty okay. You just don't like it. Plus, you've played like 5 hours.

Of course the guilds aren't gonna give serious quests to some newcomer whelp. Obviously the quests get "better" as you gain more rep in the guild. You'd think this is common sense.

You are stupid, who told you that I found interesting killing dragons every 5 minutes. The game just sends me to do stupid stuff all the time without any importance.

"oh go kill 4 Telvani agent thieves that kidnap and steal from the mines "

Just fetch and kill all the time some NPCs without any backstory.+

If you hate these quests so much I'd really recommend just playing something else.

I'm not going all "if u dont like it dont play it", I'm just saying how it is. I for one enjoy the quests in this game and there's generally nothing wrong with them, but to each their own. I'd advise you to leave it before you spend too much time on it. The game has quests that would interest you but a lot of them are "fetch quests".

I thought it was a story rich game and wanted to see why there's so much love for this game. I can understand that it was inovating during the time it was released but in comparison to the newer elder scrolls right now I can't find it better.

It is story rich. It's just that not every single quest is.

Yeah, I can't agree about the newer TES games being better. I'd argue (and have argued) they're not even close. Again, to each his own.

A story rich game doesn't mean that every single quest is it's own seperate storyline. Yes, a lot of quests are quite basic and for some people like myself that's actually really good. It's good to do basic stuff in these games as well as all the epic sh*t.

conflicts with other guilds/factions. you don't get that kind of stuff in later tes games.

you are forced to do homework and pay attention to the details, even it the game makes everything look as if you are doing something unimportant...

This game is based much more around giving you busywork to fill up time between smaller story bits, which is fun for some people and not for others. If you dislike that system you might like later entries into the series more since they focused more on telling a story and shuffled the busywork aspects off to the side so you can move at the pace you want.

It's a dungeon crawling focussed action-RPG with minimal c&c m8, if you want more than mere fetch/kill quests you should try the original Fallout games, Darklands or Age of Decadence. The guild/house quests also all get a lot more interesting midway through story wise, you start off by doing the banal/boring peasant work.

you get great rewards, its actually fun and exiting wondering whats the next rewards, The imperial legion rewards you with their best armor piece by piece as you advance, mages guilds give you potions scrolls etc , doing those quests is actually rewarding.Gets you geared and ready for main quest. The telvanni give you a nice helm you would like i am not going to spoil the fun for you lol, give it a go and ignore the neg comments they dont understand the game that saved bethesda from crashing and burning to ashes.

It's been said that Morrowind is a combination of the old and the new many times before.
And to a certain extent that is right, Morrowind is following some of the ideas from ES 2: Daggerfall, while implementing many ideas you will see in Skyrim and Oblivion.
In Daggerfall you build reputation with different groups(and believe me there are MANY groups) and they usually send you to do some irrelevant quests. That is in my opinion something that makes the game feel more realistic, doing simple tasks while being in low ranks in a guild seems more appropiate for a novice.
Trust me, in Morrowind it gets better with certain guilds and also doing dungeon crawling for guild quests sends you in locations where you discover more about the ES universe and Vvanderfell.
Just don't blindly do the quests, read books, speak with npcs, learn more about the world around you.
Also doing quests for a certain guild can improve or decrease your reputation with guilds(something you will not see in Skyrim or Oblivion).
And the story rich part is actually more obvious in the main quest, which isn't as one-dimensional as Skyrim or Oblivion main quests are.
Morrowind is hard game to endure nowadays, at its core it still has some oldschool rpg elements.
Play more, the game will get you, that's the magic of Morrowind. First time I played it seemed so boring and gave up on it for months. The second time I picked it up, I played it for 13 years without stopping. Trust me, with only 5 hours played, you didn't even scratched the surface of the game, so much more to discover in it :).

I'm just going to repeat what I said before:
---
It's true Morrowind quests are pretty bland (go, kill, loot, return) but the lore are top-notch. There was a huge war between dark elves and Dwarf. Something happened - leader of the dark elves died and four people gain immortality (Dagoth Ur, Almalexia, Sotha Sil, Vivec). As you progress you will find out what that something is from your enemy (Dagoth Ur), a "god" (Vivec), official history books, unofficial historical records and a Daedric Prince (Azura). You get to see many sides (often w/ conflicting account) to a huge historical event. You also need to read between the lines to realize the internal/political struggle and various personal pettiness within the various guilds and the local criminal organization. To me all that are interesting as ♥♥♥♥ and that's why I like Morrowind way more than Oblivion/Skyrim.
---
Yeah majority of the quests are boring - try doing the main quest.

Agreed, the writing was far superior in Morrowind to both Oblivions and Skyrim's combined (not saying much), but what made it for me were the dungeons, they were actually interesting to explore and each told their own story rather than just the same generic copy paste goblin caves, tombs, ruins from Oblivion and Skyrim. Was also fun creating and enchanting your own weapons. Also try avoid googling for help, grinding for experience, cash and ♥♥♥♥, take it as an experience, not a game.
