Sorry, I had to.
It doesn't "get better" because it's already pretty okay. You just don't like it. Plus, you've played like 5 hours.
Of course the guilds aren't gonna give serious quests to some newcomer whelp. Obviously the quests get "better" as you gain more rep in the guild. You'd think this is common sense.
You are stupid, who told you that I found interesting killing dragons every 5 minutes. The game just sends me to do stupid stuff all the time without any importance.
"oh go kill 4 Telvani agent thieves that kidnap and steal from the mines "
Just fetch and kill all the time some NPCs without any backstory.+
I'm not going all "if u dont like it dont play it", I'm just saying how it is. I for one enjoy the quests in this game and there's generally nothing wrong with them, but to each their own. I'd advise you to leave it before you spend too much time on it. The game has quests that would interest you but a lot of them are "fetch quests".
Yeah, I can't agree about the newer TES games being better. I'd argue (and have argued) they're not even close. Again, to each his own.
A story rich game doesn't mean that every single quest is it's own seperate storyline. Yes, a lot of quests are quite basic and for some people like myself that's actually really good. It's good to do basic stuff in these games as well as all the epic sh*t.
conflicts with other guilds/factions. you don't get that kind of stuff in later tes games.
you are forced to do homework and pay attention to the details, even it the game makes everything look as if you are doing something unimportant...
And to a certain extent that is right, Morrowind is following some of the ideas from ES 2: Daggerfall, while implementing many ideas you will see in Skyrim and Oblivion.
In Daggerfall you build reputation with different groups(and believe me there are MANY groups) and they usually send you to do some irrelevant quests. That is in my opinion something that makes the game feel more realistic, doing simple tasks while being in low ranks in a guild seems more appropiate for a novice.
Trust me, in Morrowind it gets better with certain guilds and also doing dungeon crawling for guild quests sends you in locations where you discover more about the ES universe and Vvanderfell.
Just don't blindly do the quests, read books, speak with npcs, learn more about the world around you.
Also doing quests for a certain guild can improve or decrease your reputation with guilds(something you will not see in Skyrim or Oblivion).
And the story rich part is actually more obvious in the main quest, which isn't as one-dimensional as Skyrim or Oblivion main quests are.
Morrowind is hard game to endure nowadays, at its core it still has some oldschool rpg elements.
Play more, the game will get you, that's the magic of Morrowind. First time I played it seemed so boring and gave up on it for months. The second time I picked it up, I played it for 13 years without stopping. Trust me, with only 5 hours played, you didn't even scratched the surface of the game, so much more to discover in it :).
damn fan boy

It's true Morrowind quests are pretty bland (go, kill, loot, return) but the lore are top-notch. There was a huge war between dark elves and Dwarf. Something happened - leader of the dark elves died and four people gain immortality (Dagoth Ur, Almalexia, Sotha Sil, Vivec). As you progress you will find out what that something is from your enemy (Dagoth Ur), a "god" (Vivec), official history books, unofficial historical records and a Daedric Prince (Azura). You get to see many sides (often w/ conflicting account) to a huge historical event. You also need to read between the lines to realize the internal/political struggle and various personal pettiness within the various guilds and the local criminal organization. To me all that are interesting as ♥♥♥♥ and that's why I like Morrowind way more than Oblivion/Skyrim.

Yeah majority of the quests are boring - try doing the main quest.
