The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

MGSO 3.0 OR Morrowind step: What do you prefer?
I wanted to know do any of you guys/girls have a perference between the two? In my opinion MGSo is out of date but Morrowind step is far more time consuming.

I've used both and have also done the pastebin guide... it's just not worth in my opinion. It is an arduous process that invariably leads to issues that must be resolved, and the end result is a game with cut and paste textures that lack a cohesive design. Now I generally just install the fixes listed on step with the graphics extender and code patch. From there I either install an older version of morrowind watercolored that I personally prefer over 2.0 OR I just leave 99% of vanilla textures alone and simply use better bodies and a collection of heads from various head mods that I feel are true to vanilla. Anything else ends up being too much imo.
I use MGSO right now, with many features disabled to keep true to vanilla because I am used to it more (for example I keep the vanilla bodies and faces), but I would like to try STEP. However the manual installation puts me off, I don't like cluttering the data files and Morrowind folder in general, because it's a pain in the ass to uninstall the mods manually as well.

I'm not used to Wrye Mash but I would love it if Mod Organizer could be used with Morrowind. If that was the case, I would go with STEP all the way (but probably also not all the mods, as I said, I like some things in vanilla as is). For now I think MGE XE and some of the MGSO options are fine.

MSGO is old, unstable & outdated now. Go with the STEP guide for a smooth, stable experience.
Oh I have, I've been using the step guide. I will finish it by this week. I want to use Tam rebuilt and also Morrowind Rebirth so I will have to leave out some of the tree mods
I was going to use MGSO, but I just found out about the alternative. Not sure if I could do it by myself, I'm new with mods, never really moded any game before, just Gothic 1, but that was easy.
Do you guys know any tutorial, for noobs like myself? :)

its pretty easy you ever heard of step?
neither, i prefer to pick, choose and install according to my own preferences

i used MGSO2 a long, long time ago and hated it
i also absolutely detest the method of installation, given that it's completely unnecessary to take mouse control away from the end-user just to input choices the user already made, or to auto-click dialog boxes that simply shouldn't have been made into dialog boxes in the first place

on the other hand, i feel as though all of the STEProjects result in a fairly unoffensive, if sterile, experience that doesn't really emulate vanilla, but also lacks the freedom of choice and expression that modding epitomises
I used MGSO for the first time lately, I found it pretty simple to install if you are a lil tweaky usually. Only had to manually set screenshot directory, disable some stuff. Still I can understand the provided tools looks aggressive to someone who just want to play.

I found out about STEP in this thread, never heard of it before. It seems like the ways I modded the game 10 years ago, but with the safety of not installing conflicting mods. That said, I think it's a long guide and the only point I seem to find interesting is the self casting shadow system applied on world objects (if one can tell me the exact mod file, I'd appreciate), as well as the smoothness it gives to the picture. Morrowind always seemed to look sharp to me.

Yet I never found a set of mods proposing a good "hands mesh" mod. I'm satisfied with my game so far except for the overall animations and the clunky low-poly hands. Morrowinds looks amazing on a still view, but as soon as I draw a weapon, or see tps view, it kicks back to 2000.

I did, I was reading the page yesterday. My only problem is related to DDSopt, the Texture optimization. I don't quite understand how it works... I don't even know where am I suposed to put the file. The page doesn't really tell either.
I don't use either. I use OpenMW.

Hello,
Does that improves the fps considerable? What's your experience?

It does for me. When I used vanilla Morrowind, I couldn't use my native resolution and I couldn't use Steam overlay (interface) in game at all. With OpenMW, I can use my native resolution, use Steams overlay and it has a few other options that go with it.

I haven't had any problems with OpenMW. It runs smooth and fixes any issues that I had with vanilla.
