Instructions
Okay, I'm following a little intro help video for my second go of Morrowind, as my first didn't go so well, and he's telling me to steal everything I can and then when caught, drop the items. However, I can't find any way to quickly drop items. Can someone help out?

If you're talking about the limeware platter in the census office... you pick it up then right-click your mouse to open the inventory screen. IIRC you drop the item by holding left-click on it and drag it off your bags.

Isn't there a faster way than dragging it out of the inventory?

The game is paused while your inventory is open. It doesn't matter how fast you do it.

One thing you can do is open up your inventory while walking up to the limewire platter, click on the limewire platter with your mouse (instead of pressing e on it), then immediately click the mouse again to drop it either at your feet or back on the shelf. You can do this with any item in your view for as long as you need while time is frozen in your inventory screen.

Also, the instructions you described in the original post are wrong. You pick the item up, immediately open your inventory- drop the item; since the game is paused you have plenty of time to drag it out of your inventory. You wait for the guard to talk to you about stealing. After the convo your pick the item back up off the ground like nothing happened. I'll point out it is an exploit (in case you still didn't realize that).

Just because you can cheese the game doesnt mean you should. Dont spoil your first go by exploting everything. I wish I could experience this game new once again.

Where did u go wrong on your first attempt.the game is hard to break and character flaws can be corrected in later levels.Early coin just means u can buy training and if your skills are good fresh off the boat u can save coin and fix character skills at later levels. The warehouse has more coin if u want to deal drugs.Potions sold to Creeper earn full price, empty the crates in Balmora and sell all the restoration potions u wont need these at low levels

You don't even have to steal all the stuff in the beginning, although that limeware platter is a nice way to start out. There are so many ways to exploit the game for money.

Last time I started I had 80K in almost no time. Excellent for early training.

In Balmora temple there is a merchant near a cabinet that randomly contains several enchanted Saint's shields worth 15k each and a few other good items.

All you have to do is block the npc so his sandboxing causes him to walk himself out of the room and once he is out of the room and looking away, you just run back to the cabinet and sneak steal from it and then sell the items to the Mudcrab merchant or Creeper.

You can do that every time that NPC resets his stock.

Stealing is so easy in this game and you will be able to get insane amounts of gold by doing so.

One thing to remember is to set your Mark point to within arms reach of either Creeper or Mudcrab merchant and once you become over-encumbered with theivery, use recall to transport back to them and unload your stolen loot.

If you join House Telvanni and obtain the Ring of Toxic Cloud by completing the Slave Rebellion quest and killing all the slaves, you can go to Mournhold as early as level 1 and kill level 60 High Ordinators. Their armor is extremely valuable around 180K for the set and you can kill several of them using that ring.

That ring is so over-powered you can use it to defeat high level enemies for sellable items when you need gold.

Mark and Recall are your friends ...T'izo fireclaw didn't steal anything but the dagger, lock pick, and 37 gold from the Census and Excise Office in Seyda Neen but since then he has ransacked many dungeons, mines and tombs using those spells and slowly sold everything therein to the freelance merchants in Balmora thus obtaining a small fortune of over 30k gold (at level 12 without having yet joined any of the factions). This fortune doesn't include his collection of dwemer artifacts, illegal drugs, or exotic weapons, armor and jewelry as most of those are too valuable (i.e. over 2k gold value each) at this time for him to want to sell at a loss.

Having excessive wealth early in the game means that you will be better equipped (and can train your skills) however, it isn't a requirement. There are many quests, caches, and/or delves in and around Seyda Neen that have significant monetary rewards or treasure with which you can easily acquire almost any starting equipment that you might desire. Furthermore, as others have pointed out, there are also many ways to obtain wealth quickly with little to no risk -- the choice is yours; since everyone has different ways of playing the game which makes it enjoyable.
