The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Is the story still worth it?
I never played Morrowind, started with Oblivion and Skyrim and although I liked those games, I always though the story was horrible, specially the main quest, quick, forgetable without any sense of true importance, I mean, take Skyrim for instance, yeah there is a big bad Dragon trying to eat the world but, I can do some cool Daedra sidequest instead.

So that's my focus on this question, how are the major stories? Base game main quests, expansions main quests, even Guild quests, are they any good?

I don't mind reading a lot and I don't mind lack of VA so, I'm just referring to the quality of the writting.

Thanks

Like I have mentioned before in another thread: Due to the fact that in Morrowind there is no voiced dialogue (with some exceptions), more can be said which makes the story or lore aspect of the game (whatever you want to call it) richer and more interesting, at least for me. During the main quest you also do a lot of investigating, learning about the backstory to the game, which I found very interesting and engaging.
I think that Morrowind's story is definitely better than Oblivion's or Skyrim's, in fact there is a lot left to speculate and you can look at things in different ways (such as what happened in the past events that led to the main story, you will know what I mean if you decide to play it and get there).

In my case, Morrowind was the only game of this series that really enthralled me, because the progression in the story was interesting and you learned a lot of lore on the way. In the end it left me eager to learn more about the TES universe, while Oblivion and Skyrim I played for the casual roleplaying, having fun aspect, and didn't really invest in the lore.

As for the DLCs: In my opinion the Tribunal DLC was boring, but it has an important part to the story, some key characters make an appearance and some of the best items you get there, so it is worth playing definitely. But otherwise, Bloodmoon I liked more, as it adds a whole new area (Solstheim) that is very different from Vvardenfell, with many new locations, NPCs and quests, and also a main storyline that involves a Daedric Prince.

The quild quests are good. Some of them are admittedly fetch quests, especially in the Temple, but most of the time it is a unique item you're getting and you get to keep it. Compared to the later TES, there isn't just *1* storyline for each guild, but many different quests from guild masters in the different cities.
There's a lot of variety between the factions, for example the great houses. Hlaalu quests would often include business, bribery or blackmail. In Telvanni, the house of crazy wizards, each master has different quirks and the quests can be very eccentric. Redoran, I honestly don't know, but I imagine it is more strict and generic than the other 2 more lively houses (there are more interesting NPCs in Hlaalu and Telvanni in my opinion). In general I definitely think the guild quests are very fun and one of my favourite part of the game.

Fantastic game, best of the bunch IMHO, quite different from the later ones and quite a steep learning curve, havent played it in donkey's years so coming back now in anticipation of the ESO morrowind expansion :) Downloading the Morrowind Overhaul mod just now to make it look more updated, hell I would play it just for the Jeremy Soule soundtrack alone! good luck and enjoy your new adventure :)

Wow, thanks for the response fellas, my favorite game is Planescape Torment, so I'm ok with reading. Also, I don't mind smaller or more personal main stories as long as they have some weight on the characters around them. I always heard morrowind had the strangest and most fleshed out lore so that's a plus for me. I heard the game also had cranky UI and journal, but I believe it's mostly fixed with mods, which I know for a fact it had a strong movement.
