I don't really consider using or selling the DB armor cheating because there are so many exploits in the game that allow you to make alot of money in no time. Then you can just go to Ghostgate and buy glass armor at level 1. You can even find a set of glass armor on a corpse for the taking.
I usually have the Cuirass of the Saviors Hide and the Boots of the Apostle at level 1 which are far better then the DB armor.
You can also easily steal a fortune of sellables. Like in Balmora Temple, you can just push the NPC near the entrance out of his room and then steal from the cabinet. I stole a bunch of valuable items including 3 saint shields worth 50k each and when the cabinet resets you can do it again.
Of course if you want the game to remain a challenge, you might want to excercise some restraint, but that is your choice.
It depends if you want to play the game with the original vision and difficulty of the base game. The assasin spawn and the OP light armor seemed more like a reward for buying/installing the expansion back in the day and was an indicator that the expanion installed correctly (IIRC the expansion instructions were to sleep at a bed after installing).
i would more likely justify cheating as spawning in unique gear/raising you levels to 99 etc where you have a unnatural advantage
