The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

How good is the stealth system?
Morning errybody.

Lately I've been playing a conjurer and had an urge to make a new character. I was thinking a thief that uses enchanted daggers and such. However, I've heard the stealth in Morrowind is god awful.

Anyone here ever make a succesful thief? Is the stealth system bad? Thanks.

Terrible in my opinion.
You should get the overhaul.

Total ♥♥♥♥♥. Honestly, all of the "Core" Gameplay systems are bad in this game. The combat is bad, the Stealth mechanics are bad, and the act of casting spells is bad. But it makes up for it through variety. Combat has tons of weapons and armor to explore, magic has a nearly infinite amount of spell possibilities, but stealth, stealth has really nothing.

All of Bethesda Stealth really lags behind the curve though. IMO tho, Oblivion and Fallout 3 had borderline good stealth play. Not much has changed in Skyrim and Fallout 4 so it's fallen behind the curve again.

Hopefully for ES6, Bethesda takes notes from MGS5 in how to program AI for Stealth gameplay, design levels for stealth gameplay (Relevant because open world too)

It works. It works fine. It's just not the magical stealth that other games have. It does not make you invisible. You can still see Fargoth when he sneaks out in the open, so why do you think no one can see you when you so the Fargoth walk out in the open?

But get your stealth up above starting n00b levels, and you actually can hide in shadows at night. You can get behind people and pick their pockets. But you can't do it with a kindergarten sneak level of 25%. As they say in the forums, get gud.

Pickpocketing almost never works. But sneaking around works absolutely fine. Don't expect to do anything well straight off the boat though...

EDIT: A sneaky marksmen is probably the easiest to play. Get them critical hits.

One of the better trainers in the game gives good advice: "It takes patience, but to get really good at sneak, sneak everywhere." Vivec is an excellent place to practice, since there are guards everywhere. But trust me, after awhile, you'll be able to sneak by them now and again. Each successful sneak adds a few points toward leveling up in that skill. I haven't paid for a lesson yet, but at level 20 my knight/rogue was sneaking at level 72.
IMO, Morrowind is best played ignoring trainers. Powergaming ruins the experience fast unless you really like being op.

As everyone else is saying stealth is terrible. Anytime I want to play a stealthy character I make sure to prioritize the illusion skill as opposed to the sneak skill
