Clearing up a bit of a misconception about P-Ranks

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this (at least not based off of what I've seen of people talking about the requirements to P-rank a level), but you don't actually need to collect all the Toppins to get P-Rank. Little tidbit of knowledge for anyone who might want a speedier time in a new save and skip over any of the nine toppins you can miss before facing the final boss.

I will say that the Toppins do give a nice point bonus, which can help you clear the threshold needed to get the P-Rank. In case you want to test this point out, you can run John Gutter (first level) and skip the Cheese Toppin. It's possible to at least P-Rank that stage. I assume the others work the same.

Where would this even come into play in a relevant manner? The first Taxi in Pig City?

You still need a lotta of points because they get drained on lap 2 over-time.

I mentioned I at least skipped the Cheese Toppin in John Gutter as a test, which is seated right above the main path after coming out of the pizza box tele thingy. You can shave a small amount of time, which is impactful in a speedrun setting. Or if you don't want to lose Mach 3 for the Cheese Toppin.

True, however the combo meter, maintaining a good speed throughout, and collecting those big point things can overcome the gap. Gotta go fast!

as to answer the original poster, while this is interesting i still think NOT collecting the toppins could ♥♥♥♥ you up considering how much you miss out on the potential score

As I mentioned before, it's just a speed strat. As long as you are diligent in collecting points from other sources, you can overcome the difference.
