To be blunt, it's basically just the same thing but with worse level design and a weaker, more troublesome moveset.
The animation can get pretty clean and smooth, possibly better than pizza tower's at times.
I'd said wait until the full thing comes out to compare the two.
(in the end i still find it fun though)
as for janky, it's because you're used to the pizza tower controls.
the controls themselves are really good once you actually get used to them.
also, it is built from the ground up, just that most of the mechanics are stolen

it's honestly pointless and at this point the dev team should probably cancel it and start working with the SS team instead
However artstyle wise I do really like how Sugary Spire looks, its like a more polished up PT graphics wise.
