Pizza Tower
What other stuff is Pizza Tower inspired by?
In terms in inside jokes, art styles, etc. Besides the obvious Warioland gameplay and Spider-Man 2 references

The entire aesthetic is based on cartoons from the 90' like Ren and Stimpy. The title cards are also a reference to cartoons, and the tunes you hear are a reference to Super Mario 64. The "technical difficulties" screens are also a cartoon trope. I believe there is a hint of Vinesauce. The scoring/rank system is very similar to Sonic games (also there are several references to Sonic including the character Snick). Italian stereotypes. The TV is a reference to DOOM (along with the golf level kinda). The level Don't Make a Sound is both a reference to FNaF and pizza places like Chuck E. Cheeses. The music is mostly inspired by Warioland but you can hear Carpenter Brut in the song used in War. I'm not well versed in music to know any other similarities, but the 2nd phase of the final boss is definitely inspired by SOMETHING.
Joel mentioned this, but the music samples for the menu and the intro, they give HUGE Jazz Jackrabbit 2 vibes, it probably was the inspiration.
Oh yeah some of the music samples are from Jet Set Radio's music as well.
The Noise is a reference to The Noid, Domino's Pizza's old mascot. His theme is also a reference to Metal Sonic's theme from Sonic CD.

To add to that, Mr.Orange, The Noise's twin brother, is based off Mr.Green, a rival to he Noid who looked just like him but green.

On a darker note, Mr.Orange was gonna be called Kenneth, based on the real life person Kenneth Lamar Noid who had severe mental issues and ended up assaulting a Domino place after he thought they named the character after him. The change to Mr.Orange was done by Mr.Pig (the main dev) after learning how messed up the entire story of that man is, and could be seen as rather crass.
Double Post! But I feel this one is interesting.

In the wiki it said that Pizzahead is inspired by MUGEN Ronald Macdonald. At first I was like "what?" since that character is known for being an absolute beast of a fighter while Pizzahead is basically a joke.

However the 3rd phase concept art was completely different, rather than him doing silly attacks that are easy to dodge like in the game, he would actually start snapping out and going insane, and he would do punches, kicks, with some that stretche through the screen and charge at you, he looks rather menacing which is more in line for that MUGEN inspiration.

Could be really cool for like a hard mode incase that ever comes out.
Found 2 more.

Mort The Chicken from the farm level is from....Mort The Chicken. A PS1 game.

In the song for the Fastfood Saloon level, You can hear the "I don't understand what's going on here" from the Jetset Radio song Sneakman
Most of it is 90s references
Noid
SMB64
Wario Land
Pizza Hut's late 80s early 90s mascot, the Noid
Overall aesthetics is lifted from 90s american cartoons like Ren and Stimpy, Cow and Chiken, etc.

used to have a family guy taunt
The "Hello There" during the Pizza Time song MUST be a reference to Wario Land 4's Palm Tree Paradise. It immediately stuck out to me but most people (even Wario Land players) seem to not remember. Either that or it has been talked to death years ago so no one talks about it anymore. I heard its part of the soundtrack that dates back years before Pizza Tower came out.

The final hit in the fight against Vigilante is most likely a Kirby reference. The Kirby has some mini games which had the player have to time a button press after a signal before the opponent. The theme of the first mini game using this format? The wild west (Most of the later ones would use a Samurai theme).

It would make more sense if the TV was a reference to Carmageddon but the dev is known to be a fan of the old Doom games.

Yeah, that's the case. Actually the original version had the same sample, but it was removed, since it was (presumably) Nintendo's property, like the Wario samples in the original version of Cold Spaghetti.

I do feel like most people don't know about it. At least not the normies. Pizza Tower definitely outgrew its "Wario Tribute" space, with how many kids on youtube compare it to.... Cuphead of all things.

The only way I can see it being compared to Cuphead is that they both are styled after cartoons of a certain era. With Cuphead being 20' cartoons and Pizza Tower being 90' cartoons.
