Does the story has any connection to Homefront 1?

It is Homefront 2 but it is a totaly new story or it is also a continuation from the end of Homfreton1? Are any of the characters who were in the first game also in this?

When a second homefront game was first revealed. The developers (Crytek) stated that it was a sequel with some characters using the events of the previous game to form legends that would rally more citizens to the uprising. However after Homefront 2 got passed around, sold, put into limbo and then finally placed in the hands of developer Dambuster Studios. It was renamed "Homefront The Revolution" and branded a reboot with little to no connection to the first Homefront game.

Yeah but strangley enough 'the voice of freedom' character was in the Homefront novel (for the first game) and referenced in the first game a few times... he somehow exists in this game which has a different story and time frame. Ugh im not happy with it, I had no idea until i got it that the story was different. At that point, why even have the damn North Koreans as the badguys?
