30 minutes max.
In contrary to the main game it's very linear and focuses on stealth, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I actually like it better that way.
Nope, there's no flashlight. They removed it for the DLC for whatever reason.
Aside from the fact it's short, I'm not seeing any huge issues yet. It definitely does feel like something put together by a B-team, but that's normal with DLC.
That animation where Walker turns off the radio dial is very interesting, because it was present in the 2014 demo footage. And the linear design of the mission makes me think that it's probably based on a mission from the "old" version of the game, before it was open world.
Whoa now. Drop the insults.
I thought this exact same thing about it being from the "old" version.
IMO, the DLC has probably been scaled back from its original concept. The sort of "infiltration montage" at the end seems to indicate them stitching together as best they could.
But in terms of being a single mission prologue, it's fairly decent. Call of Duty games have 15-20 minute long missions, for example. This is 30-45 minutes long, and has some decent atmosphere and storytelling. It's linear, so the traditional padding tricks that open world games use won't work here.
It remains to be seen how long "Aftermath" is. If that DLC is equally short, then I think people have a right to complain.
The basic design problem with Voice of Freedom is that it is a linear mission with no padding. Now this isn't "bad" per se. It certainly gives it stronger storytelling. But a huge part of Homefront's length comes from exploration and general open world stuff.
I really hope that they actually give some solid details before release, though, instead of revealing the DLC on the day of release.
having paid the expansion pass - i dont think im asking that much for some little INFO in advance !!!
i mean the second dlc could be even shorter then first DLC and not a new zone to liberate ( and im not complaining if i have some news ) - but as of now what do i know , - NOTHING !!!
Voiced protagonist is very atmospheric. Walker makes little comments when you pick things up and you feel like you're playing an actual person. I seriously hope he returns in future DLC. He seems like a good protagonist.
There is a bit of "off the track" exploration, which I appreciate. It's not 100% "walk down this corridor" stuff.
Rubber duck. What is with the rubber duck? IIRC, all the Crytek FPS games had rubber ducks in them, either ingame or hidden in the game files. I found that scene very amusing.
The atmosphere is great. It's different to the main game which was more about "emergent" atmosphere created by the open world and the weather system and the ambient world building. This is the sort of scripted atmosphere you see in other FPS titles, and it's really quite nice and well done.
