Caribbean Legend and Sea Dogs: To Each His Own

While I was following a guide, I saw the writer making a reference to the game TEHO or Sea Dogs: To Each His Own. I looked it up out of curiosity. It looked like another version of Caribbean Legend but with quests locked behind dlc purchases. So I'm a little confused.

Seeing two similar games made by the same developer reminded me of the two Mount and Blade games, which is the first one that came out and the updated Warband version that had more features in it that came out later.

I assume Caribbean Legend is just a remake and spiritual successor of TEHO and the Sea Dogs series. What's the differences? I never grew up with the Sea Dog series and Carribean Legend is my introduction to it and so far it has been interesting and the only comparison I can make to it is the Mount and Blade series since the two game series play... almost similarly.
