Story mode literally has a whole storyline that beats having your own colonies lmao.
The attacked nation(s) will send fleets to take back their lost colonies so it's not as fun as it seems.

well it,s different...every side have + and - ... best way to combine both and you have the best game ever...
I'd rather play story mode because there are so many paths that lead to many different outcomes. I've played for 1.1k hours and I still haven't explored all the story paths lol.
Story = (Sandbox - without colony management) + Story
Sandbox = Sandbox
At least sandbox gets three more characters, but they are part of nations who have more enemies than friends.
